The City Council.

Tax Levies and Waterworks. The City Council met last night, in adjourned session, mainly for the purpose of fixing the tax levies for the ensuing year. The levies for the varions funds were fixed at the following rates, on the SIOO assessed valuation. Corporation fund $.70 Road fund 15 Sinking fund .10 Special school fund........ ....... .50 Tuition .35 Special Addn’l 20 Total $2.00 This is an increase over last year of 30 cents on the SIOO. Mr. Ladd, representing the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., contractors for the city waterworks was present and several matters connected therewith were discussed and settled. One new boiler will be used, of 100 horse power capacity. It is decided that the waterworks company will assume the electric light plant debt. The method that is to be adopted in connection with the waterworks and light plant, is to organi ize a stock company. The city will take SIO,OOO of the stock of company, selling its bonds to that amount. This sum will be turned over to the waterworks company leaving the total amount still due them, on both waterworks and light plant, $37,058. As soon as the works are completed, they are I turned over to the city, which will have entire management.

The waterworks are to be completed by Jan. 15th. A special session will be held Monday night, at which time a waterworks ordinance will bej ready and the) final contracts will be signed up.
