THE OIUANG OUTAMi. We translate from a late Pari Journal the Following notice of this animal: Many anecdotes are related of the sagacity and intelligence of the voneg Ourar.g Outang from Sumatra, which is now in the Museum of Natural History. He not only possesses great docility-, hut he seems lo c.rderstand many of the feelings and actions of man; he is se;ii'ole f reproof, and sheds tears and pouts when he i scolded. He imitates with great skill what he sees done, and ex en invetvs appropriate means well fitted to atl-iin his end.

Many curious yet well authenticated anecdotes, illustrating the wonderful sagacity of the canine race, are related among xxhich the following, which xxehnd in an old Lngiish paper, is not the least leuiatk able. A large New fonndland dog belonged to the Captain of a ship engaged in the tr ade between Jxova Scotia and Greenock. Oa one occasion, the Captain brought from Halifax a beautiful cat xxhich formed a particular acquaintance witSx Rover; and these Ixvo animals of such different natures were almost Inseparable during the passage On arriving at Greenock the cat xvas presented bv the Captain lo a lady of his acquaintance, who isidtil iiv.ru I y half a tmle from the quay, in whose family sh remained for several weeks, and xvas oc casionally visited by her friend and fel low passenger Rover, who seemed not a littb; uispleased at l ie separation. which had taken place between them On the day, however, xvhen the ship was to leave the port for another voxage, the unusual bustlo onboard, gavi Rover a hint of what xva going on aod he decided on his course of conduct without delay. He jumped on shore, made his l ist visit to pu- seiz d her in his teeth, much to her astonishment, and carried her through the streets to the quay, just as the h;p xva hauling off. He made a spring. laved tile gon wale, and fiit lx shipped hi feline friend in goood order and cot dition. in and upon the good ship called the Nancy of Greenock and lh n run lo his master wagging his tail a if entreating that she might be allowed to lemaia on board. lllm Joumnl.
