IN DIANA LIXJISI, ATI THE. By a letter (roru Indianapolis, we learn that both branches of the Legislature were organized on Monday last. In the House, Caleb 15. Smith, of Fayette, was chosen Speaker; Mr. Elliott, Clerk; and George B. Wilson, assistant Clerk. In tho Senate, Charles Test was chosen Secretary, and Ebenezer Damont, of Wilmington, in this county, assistant Secretary. The election for United States' Senator, was expected to take place on Thursday. The friends of Hendricks, Noble and O. II. Smith, seemed to expect success. Ctj-Gcncral Haukison's majority in Indiana, is S?,80:. The official statement of the votes given in the different comities, has not been received ; hut we presume it has been published ere this at Indianapolis. 07 VVe have no further news of importance on the subject of the Presidential election. It having been reduced to a certainty that Van Buren is elected, the papers on both sides, say but little about it. Till: YlCi: PRKSIDKNCY. Some of our exchange papers are speculating as to who will be the Vice President. It seems certain that no choice has been made by the People. Virginia did not vote for Johnson. If she has voted lor him in her electoral college, he may be elected ; if not, the case is doubtful. When the People fail to elect, the two highest candidates are returned to the Senate, upon which the duty devolves of choosing the Vice President. Johnsou is the highest ; and from a statement we have seen, it seems probable that Tyler and Granger will each receive 62 votes. Which of the two will be returned to the Senate? Here is what makes the case doubtful. For our own part, we consider Col. Johnson's chance of success better than either of his opponents . OT-The navigation of the River has been somewhat impeded the present week, by floating ice. The weather, however, having moderated considerably on yesterday, we think it probable that the ice will soon run out, and the River continue open for some time yet. 07-The Palladium of December 3d, comes out with the name of Milton Gregg stuck up as Editor, Printer and Proprietor. ot a word is said about the chance of proprietors. We understand that a fuss was last week kicked up between the glorious nineteen, the consequence of which was that the renowned Col. Cameron had leave to withdraw . lie has probably gone back to the I'ly Market neighborhood. The Palladium may now be better conducted than it has been for some months past. There is one thing, however, much against it : and that is, as every body knows, Gregg lias always been an understrapper for certain men in and about Lawrcnceburgh. STONE COAL. Wc have seen a paragraph in some of the papers, copied from the Greensburgh, la. Reposi tory, stating that a large bank of stone coal has lately been discovered on one of the head branches of Laughery creek, about twelve miles South East of Greensburgh. It is stated that the bank of coal is thought to be inexhaustible. If this be true, it will, as tlie Editor remarks, at one day be of considerable value to that section of country. HYDROPHOBIA. Base moxev Twenty-five cent spurious .Mexican pieces, are now in circulation in New Orleans. The engraving is bad, and the counterfeit can easily be detected. Wc are informed that a number of thoe pieces were manufactured at the North, of pure bras?, and shipped to Mexico, there to be finished off with a little quicksilver. It would be well to be on the lookout for these brazen scoundrels, who, not satified with leading a debased life, would pass on us money base as themselves. La. Coin:
