of the county, it is only necessary for ns to recollect that they and theirmember of the legislature, on the last session, used their utmost endeavors to have an act passed, authorizing the commissioners of Dearborn county to purchase the bridge across Tanner's creek, from the money arising from the three per cent, fund, appropriated to the county, at the sum of two br three thousand dollars; but by the vigilance of the other members it was happily prevented; and the citizens of the county were saved from a very great loss. For as it was well known by the member, the bridge was totally worthless, and has since fallen down. Yet, believing with the illustrious Jkfff.ksox that "error of opinion may be tolerated, while reaso i is left free to combat it,"' we. are grieved to observe that violence is resorted to for the purpose of arresting the progress of their principles. Those who expect to effect this object by such means must be very imperfectly acquainted with human nature. In this enlightened age, even a had cause

the surest way"- ol insuring an aounuani harvest to the seed of Abolitionism, is to tranmle it down by a lawless mob.
