SATURDAY MOKMX;, MAY 2, 183G. niK MAILS. An alteration has been niailc hi the arrivals of the mail? at this place. The mail now goes up on YVrdnesilajs anil Friday?, am! comes down on Thursdays and Saturday?. Thi arrangement has put u? to some inconvenience in mailing our paper to go p on Friday, and in our hurry to pet them oft for the last two week?, we have left a number of tjpoprap'aical errors uncorrected. This will account for thec mistakes. We will, hereafter, endeavor to be more correct. OCT" We have not received the proceeding? of the County Convention, which met at Manchester, on Monday last. Wo are informed, however, that Col. Ann. C. Urn r.R, Col. i-.nn, r.nd Fin knf.y James, Major Jon F. I'u Ma 1 1? ft c ari, Fsu. were nominated ;s enndi dates to bo supported by lhoc friendly to a division of the county In reply to numerous inquiries we will Mate, (hat.wc are informed it is Col. Fetter's intention fhorlly to resicn hi? Indian Agency. TO MIXIIAXICS. A number of Journeymen Mechanic?, such a" Tailor?, Saddler?, Shoemaker?, &c. are wanted in this village. "Sober nnd industrious men, can find consent employment and liberal waNone others need apply." Laboring men arc also wanted. flCjT It gives us pleasure to state that the individuals who were so seriously injured a'. the saw-mill. in this village, on Friday of la.-t vvctk, arc rapidly recovering. Mr. Spoor, (who was snppo?cd to be dangerous,) is now thou--ht to be out of danjrer. fjj We stated a few weeks sinco that the Supreme Court of this state convened at Indinnapoli?, on the Jint Monday in this month. This was a mi-tiike. We did not know that the statute of 1!'." I, had been amended. The court meets on the la?t Monday in May. QJ" A citizen of this place, who came passenger in the steam boat Chatnjnon, from ';itchez to Louisville, on her first trip up, informs us that there is no truth in the paragraph we fast week copied from the Louisville ldverliscr, stating that the Champion had been beaten by the Chancellor. Wc it deem our duty to make this correction. The F.ditor of the Adver'iacr inurt have been misinformed. fj-Thc rule of this office, in respect to announcing the names of candidates for olfice, nnd publishing the same, is to charge one dollar, in adiance, where the candidate is not a subscriber to the Times. This rule will be invariably adhered to; and those concerned may 'govern themselves accordingly." And furt'ltr, wc announce no man's name without good and responsible authority. We do not take the l'alladium as authority, unless it contains a special request. Wc want every body to take notice of this and not make a fuss, as f'omo l ave done, because wedid not choose to publish their names gratis. TliXAS. We have given iorre extracts to-day, eoing to confirm more sfongly the reported capture of lh "Mexican Butcher," (as he has been appropriately styled) Santa Anna. We have not the leat doubt but that General Houston has him safe enough, the several account?, received from different r.'naftersj all go to confirm the first report of his capture. It will be eetn that general Cos was killed in the battle. fc-On Tu'csdaj lvorning last, the steamboat IVurg, boi-ndvp, was run into by the fi,.-..roi.iiii- down, at the mouth ofLaugliery, :it,o.'ttix miles nlxiv this place. The FiUsl.urch sunk in a few minutes, and her guards arc nw under water. Wc arc informed that i con-iderably injured, but to what amount we are unable to say. A-H-Tho Cincinnati Ga:etts of the 25th jfVr contradict, the account of the inhuman maacre, bv the Mexicans, of Dr. I$-nj. Ilar,on, son of Gen. Harrison. The ed.tor of the Gazette has seen a letter from Dr. Hamuli hiimclf, dated on the 25th of Apr.!, from which it seems that he w as taken prisoner with other Tcxians by the Mexicans afterwards surrendered himself to a Mexican officer, who, in consideration of an acquaintance with the eharacterof his father, .-ent him, in company with guides to the Texian camp, but somehow or other, the Texiaus saw proper to arrest him us a spy of the Mexicans; and hois now, in -,te;,d of being most brutally lutehend, a prisoner of the Texians. Such, says the Gazette, i-Dr. Ihnri-nn's narration Tur.M.vuKirrs. The Cincinnati Cacttc of Thursday lat, .iJ S Flour has .'.ee.line.l in that city to four dollar, nnd ffhj cents , er barrel. This is coining ,lown to s..nielhiiiS like the real value of the article. In New Orleans, May 11, our latest ihite, Hour was selling at ti and C,12 1-3-liacon in Cincinnati, according totheUazetle, is "very ilillieult to obtain purchasers, varying in price from 7 to 3 1-2 cents." Here we an; paying 121-2 cents. fr-Thc Kt'.itor of the Liberty Star I 'nion county Banner, don't seem to relish the iaceslion wc made in the alteration of his head, (not his editorial head, for that would he hard to alter, but thihead or title of his newspaper.) I le says he has consulted his w;," on the subject, and the said Imp decides that ",t would not be in accordance with mechanical skill or even ?ood taste," to make lhe alteration. We thought about as much. It ecros that this Editor'. Imp knows more than his master; b"t neither of them know too mwk about the Art of Triiiting. ow, Mr. Cornelius VanautUol Dugsins, hoiV do you like hat

It will place his professions and his practice in delight ful juxtaposition. It was with some diuiculty that we procured this copy. They are very scarce in thisend of the comity, although there was a large bundle of them sent here. It may be, that after Grecjr was elected, he sent out orders to haTO them destroyed.
