opposed to Libraries; ami it is a very good way to make opposition to anv measure, by saying there is no use to make an attempt. The committee, ho wever, are of opinion that the good sense and belter judgment of our community will overrule nil objcclioi s, and put down all opposition, and thai ere long wc shall have a library woilhy of our town. They therefore submit the following resolutions: Resolved as the opinion of this Lyceum, that a Library conducted upon proper principles, would be productive
of much pood, and beneficial to all w ho might lend their aid in its establishment. Resolved, That a committee to consist of two persons in each of the road districts in this corporation, be appointed by the chair, whose duty it shall be to solicit subset ijnions towards the establishment of a Library in Rising Sun, to be called the Library of the Rising Sun Lyceum; and that said committee be instructed to make report in Iwo weeks from this time.
1 iti:.( II AITA1RS. Mr. Rarlon has at length arrived from Trance. He. has only to confirm what we already know lhat the money due from France was demanded without offering any explanation; thai payment w as refused ; that he demanded his passports, and they were fur

regret. 1 1 is arrival at iev York is made the occasion for much speculation, as to the course the President trill pursue. This occupies men's minds, apparently, much more than does the enquiry, what ought the President, w hat ought Congress to do? This is the question
that patriotic citizens should consider.
A provisional government is now established, and otUhe 1st of March next a t.ew convention will meet to organize more fully and efficiently. There are between 1000 and 1500 volunteers from the IJ. S. in Texas, and they are hourly increasing. The Commander in chief has called for 5000. They are admitted to all the privileges of citizenship obtain their head rights of land, besides their rations and compensation in money. In a short time, the war will he
carried beyond the Del Norte into the enemy's country, and they w ill be made to support it inasmuch as their injustice and oppression have alone rendered it
necessary; and the tyrant Santana will feci and know from blood bought experience that although his countrymen may submit to absolute slavery under the mask and name of centralism, as for the colonists they have adopted Ihe motto of their ancestors, and, with one united voice, exclaim, with their Henry of immortal memory, "Give us liberty, or give us death.'' We have not deemed it proper to

Mr. Livingston came to Washington in advance of Mr. Parton, and will, no doubt, share in (ho consultations as to what line of conduct the exigencies of the country require. i The English and French papers arc full of calculations and imaginings as to the result of the dispute between Prance and the U. The valor and perseverance of the colonial troops were irresistible. This ever to be remembered event took place on Thursday, Dec. 10th. On the Saturday previous (the 5lh) 300 of the colonial troops entered the town of San Antonio, under the command of Colonel Rcnj. R. Milam. They could not at lii st get posses-ion cf the public square owing to the walls and ditches across the mouths c f the streets, each of w hich was likewise defended by two pieces of artillery, and in consequence, of this, they occupied some buildings and tops of houses ad jacent. Here they remained battling unceasingly night and day, until Wednesday the 'Jth, when they forced their way into the square and drove the enemy across the river into their fort called the "Alamo." In these relative situations the battle continued until Thursday the 10th, when the enemy capitulated. Itv the capitulation, upwards of 1000 iidded to less than 300. The town it
self was surrendered with 21 pieces of
