RISIIYG SUX: SATURDAY MOK.MG,OCT. 10, 1835. REMOVAL. Hij"The Printing Office nil I be removed on Saturday next, to the second story of the zcest end of Messrs. Haines Lwius's new Brick Building, cn Main street, opposite Mr. Fisher's tailor shop.

THE ivcrx.u. Bf n notice from (lie P-rsiilont of the Lyceum inserted, in to-day's p;ipcr, it will be seen that meeting of the members of this Institution will be held on Monday evening next. We hope there mnj be a eener;il attendance; and a proper spirit evinced it the 1'CcintiinE;. The interest taken in the suci e of the Inait'ttion latt winter, washiehly creditable- to the litrrtiti of our villa ;?, and expect to see it renewed now.

Qc5Ve take pleasure in uivins: place to the communication of O'nerrrr, because we are at nil time! willing that juttire should be meted out to every man, let his fcrnier course be w hat it may. If we l ave at any time stated what Mras not ite, it wa bisod upon incurred information, Rii.l not from a revengeful disposition, of which our enemies suppose we are posscsed. If we have wrongi 1 any man, all that is necf sary is to make us sensible of the f.ict and we ro ready ta make all the reparttion which "one eentlemnnha? u ril.t to expect from another.'"

OVU .11 A UK i :t. Out Market House lvjins to attract the attention of our country friends on Market days. For a few weeks f aH it has been pretty well attended; and we of opinion that those who have any kind of provision to sell would find it much more to their advantage to brin;; it to the Market Houm iu the morning than to carry it around to tbe store, and trade it At goods. Marketing, at the market house, always commands the cash ; and we believe our Merchants would much rather the practice of buing butter, eggs, Szo. &ZC. was discontinued, and taken to the Market, on the regular davs. There u one disadvantage, however, nnder which both citizens of town ami country labor and more particularly the latter. We allude to the early hour nt which the market opens. It gives our town folks, who have any thins: to ell an undue advantage over those of the country ; and has a tendency to keep the prices higher. Let the people of town, who are opposed to'gettmg out of bed at tiro o'clock in the morning to get a small piece of beef, petition ihe Trustees to alter the hour; and then we shall have better Markets, and lower prices ; and we will at the same time, give our friends of the couatry a chance to compete with thoc of the town. xnvsp i ek no it no w Lies. We believe that if there is a pest in society an individual who may be called a sponge, or a nuisance, that pest is the habitual newspaper borrower. All that he has read on this subject has made no impression on his meanness; or tended in the least to reform him in this most detestable practice. A newspaper borrower is a cheat. He not only cheats his neighbor, but the Printer also; and he might as well give his neighbor three pecks fur a bushel, as run to his neighbor continually to borrow his newspaper. One is just as honist as the other. We detest such ipong's they art; not in possession of the least spark of principle or honor and w ere we a subscriber to a newspaper we would shun them almost as quick as we would a venomous reptile. Several of our subscribers have discontinued their papers, because their neighbors were in the habit of borrowing them, and afier perusing tnoni, they were handed over to the children to be torn and defaced, so that they could be no longer read. Some people have no souls we know or at least they are so small that they mijht as well have none at all. More anon.

day night. The Gen. Pike was about landing freight and passengers, when he Oswego, descending, run into her. and would have struck her mid ship, and probably sunk the Pike, had not the pilot give the wheel in time to receive ihe blow on the larboard bow. The injury to the Pike was slight, breaking a lew of her guard timbers, and otherwise (earing up a few of her plank. riou'e, ana guard. ihe collision is said to have been accidental, and no censure is attached to cither boat. The Captain of ihe Gen. Pike, when he was made acquainted with the injury done lo Ihe Oswego, offered them assistance, if required. While remarking on this accident, we will take the occasion to observe, that the paekcts in the Louisville line have nhvas hern careful to avoid collision with other boats; and during the several years that the line has been in successful operation, only one other slight accident, of the kind, has occurred. Cm. Ga:. Sept. 30. THE MARKETS. There are but few changes generally, in the staple commodities of our markets, worthy of notice for Ihe past week. At the opening of the Miami Canal, a few weeks since, after a short suspension for repairs, the accumulated quantities of Flour and Whiskey shipped at the eailiest opportunity, tilled the warehouses at the Canal, and necessarily lowered the prices. Since that time the amount received has daily diminished, ihe quantity in store lessened by shipments, and piices have gradually raised, until Flour and Whiskey have again attained a price as high as at anyperiod during the last three months. Flour now rapidly commands five dill us seventy five cents per barrel, lv the quantity, from the boats nt the Canal. A lot, however, of live bun died ban els was sold at the river on yesterday, from the Steam Boat Wyoming, at five dollars and fifty cts. Whiskey comes in more slow ly than during the last week. The price has advanced two cents per gallon, and it now sclls'more freely at 36 a 3G 1-2 cts. ib

THE BVXK OF THE UXITKD STATES. We have been informed that the Bank of the United States has sold out its branches in Charleston, Baltimore, Lexington, Louisville, and Portsmouth, , to some of the local banks, and that

negotiations are on foot for a similar transfer in two or more other places. Of all other modes of winding up such an institution, such a process is the most advisable for all parties concerned. In the first pbee the Batik will realize its capital much more speedily and urely, than by collecting its own debts; and in the second place, the debtors to the Bank, by being transferred to another institution, which is not obliged to demand immediate payment, can obtain time on their accommodation loans, and fresh discounts to meet

business notes and acceptances. Of the terms of these sales we are not apprised, but we learn that the purchasing banks have taken the whole current debt it I a small discount, payable in two to five years, and at a rale of interest which allows them a profit on the transaction. The managers o( the Bank deserve credit for their effti ts in relation to this policy, which cannot

fail, In those places where it is adopted,

lo obviate the pressure winch might otherwise result. Phil. Gaz. 8TKAMUOAT COLLISION.

The New Orleans Bee of the 18th ultimo, after speaking of ihe course pursued in the Northern States m relation to Ihe unhappy question of abolition, thus proceeds with a few words of ad monition lo the South: But unfortunately we seem to be too fretfully susceptible of every breeze of abolition that blows. We magnify the rhapsodies of vagrant debates into contemplated assaults, although they are merely tolerated even in the North, and rather for Ihe sake of argument in theory than of means for action. Our northern brcthern will nol, cannot, dare not interfere by open means: and they are loo honorable, to well aware of the respect and duty which they owe to southerners to interfere in any other manner. Vet last I hey should be supposed to do or permit to be done what they could prevent, they seem resolved by their noble conduct to banich all doubt from our minds. This is their best course. Let them teach us (o rely on llscm for assistance in our need, and they shall command for themselves the aid of the south whenever required. Mutual support and forbearance is the true policy of our Union.

usual, hut where the writer has no claim upon the reader, to tax him w ith postage is neaily as bad as taking a similar amount out of his pocket by slight of hand. If people who are in the practice of this system, were only acquainted with the impression produced upon the minds of those with whom they lake this liberty unauthorized, they would perceive that the worst mode in the world of securing the aid of another i:i rendering them a service, is by beginning to display their gratilu.le bv a draft upon his purse. Publishers and editors of newspapers are very much exposed to this spec ies of imposition. There are persons, wholly unknown to them, who have Ihe modesty to order papers not only without paving in ad vance, according to the general usage, but even without paing the postage. Commodore Rogers. It is staled of (Lis gallant ellicer, w ho lias has done so much to contribute to the glon and efficiency of our Navy, that he went to sea in his thirteenth year, and against the w ishes of his father w ho yielded at last to the desire of his son, with one request and that was, that he would promise him to he temperate and avoid the use of spirituous liquors. Com. Rogers made the promise and has faithfully kept it never to (his hour having taken as much as a table spoonful of spirituous liquors if we may except an occasional glass of wine at his own table, or at the table of his friends.
