There is no branch running to nor from the spring; it never swells above its common stage nor decreases, only when a lighted torch is applied to it, when it immediately takes lire, and continues to burn until all the water is dried up by the heat of the fire, which takes some time. The committee for fixing the scale of premiums, have reported, and arrangements arc made to award a number of very valuable premiums. It is truly gratifying to witness the increasing interest and zeal of the public to sustain so valuable an institution. We have reason to believe that there will be great competition for the premiums to be awarded for fine slock. The high prices asked, and readily paid, for line animals ol all descriptions at this time, clearly shows that a proper spirit of improvement is abroad among the agriculturists of the country. A committee of arrangements has been appointed to superintend the preparations that are now in progress, for the accommodation of the society and their visiters. The governors of the adjacent states, and a number of distinguished agricul turists and bleeders have bcciunvited, and are expected to attend. Kvery ex ertion will be made by the society to render their Fair acc.eptible to the compctilors for their premiums, to (heir guests and to the public generally. Our sister slate, Indiana, is nobly sustaining the cause with enthusiasm, in the crganigaticn of her county societies, and bv her board of agriculture. The Engineer of one of the Massachusetts rail-roads finds that by not allowing spirits of any kind to the men employed, thirty per cent, is gained in the quantity of labor performed, besides the avoiding of quarrels and disturbances. In the face of a xasl accumulation of facts, and of each one's individual experience, were it properly noted, so many still presist in believing that the body is assisted at labor and the mind refreshed by a liltle spiritous stimulant, that it is well to make known all ihe striking cases in proof of the mulliphx benefits, not of temperance merely, but of total abstinence. The gamblers of the west are bunled from their sec ret retreats tvith great energy and perseverance. A number of town meetings have been held, with view of preventing their arrival, ?nd in some, anti-Gambling Societies have, been formed. Swindlers and Horse thieves should he included in the list.
