As ear neighboring town of Eaton. Ohio, has resulted in much good, and the report in the Eaton Register, thus chronicles these gratifying results: "Monosnuth surrendered, March 13th; McFarlaTrdT" March 19th, and Knauber, March 20th; and a temperance council (elected last Monday week) passed a prohibitory, liquor ordinance. ''Thompson and Ackermaa, the only two remaining liquor sellers at Eation, show no signs of yielding, and neither do the ladies." Our fellow-citizens of Eaton, can indeed thank God and tnke couragffc Tbm Attenapta to Hmrm VIIUan Bailrr'n Iters. On Tuesday Dight of last week a desperate attempt was made to fire WilliaTa tTBaxtorV large barn. At midnight of that evening an incendiary saturated a large piece of brown paper with lard and coal oil, placed it on a board immediately under the weather boardiugfcon, .the ., north 1 tid of the barn, set it on fire, and decamped, expecting Boon to see the whole building a mass of seething flame. But a hand the ineendiary knew not of frustrated his base intentions. On Wednesday night about 10J o'clock, the incendiary made, his, appearance again. ' This time he was not suffered so quietly to do his evil purpose a shot of lead caused him to decamp in double quick time. About 2 o'clock on Thursday morning another incendiary of much taller proportions thaa tba previous nne, 'was seen Istcathily creeping op to the barn. He however hastily beat a retreat with ball and shot whizzing past his head. There were several others aiding as accomplices. Since .Thursday morning these desperadoes have made no further attempt at their atrocious werw.It4sweH hpy'hrve ndt?-fbr we understand that such prepartions are awaiting their next visit, as will effectually settle their career in that line of business. We also learn there ia a strong probability that these incendiarieswill be ferreted out, for they were distinctly seen and can bo identified. , The - sooner; they are lodged in the penitentiary the better will it bo for the' public. "' " Now, what does it mean, that a peaceable, good citizen, such as we all know friend Baxter to be, must have his property threatened by the hand of an incendiary? The suggestion comes to us from various quarters, that the whlaky ring la at the bottom '.'of tVts -matter. " We do not say they are", and sincerely hope the suggestion is without any foundation in fact. If, bowever, this suggestion is correct, they display a great want of judgment; for nothing will more effectually serve to kindle a spirit of indignation in the minds of all good citizens against them and their business than this. No course they can adopt will provoke retaliation so effectually. Let them burn down friend Baxter's barn, and tbatyery moment it will build a hornet suest around their' heads such as they never dreamed of. Instead of a woman's crusade there will be a crusade of a different character a crusade that will not stop until these wanton violators ot law will be cleaned out of our city. 11 - , ' ' Because Friend Baxter is honestly laboring to stay a traffic which is daily dragging down many of onr citizens leading our young men into the haunts of iniquity causing many hearts to bleed with terrible anguish, and uiakins.hQiies wretched and destitute; because he is seeking to remove a traffic which tends more than all other causes to fill our poor houses, penitentiaries and asylums, and which more than doubles the taxes of every industrious and law-abiding ciliien in our community because he is doing all he can to get men out of a business which is a curse to the best interests of themselves, his property is endangered by the torch of incendiaries. Such ia the inevitable tendency of the whisky business. No other business, will stultify J! so much the moral1 sensibilities 6T ouir nature as will this. This alone, if nothing else will do it, should cause every citizen who is interested in the welfare of his own immediate family and of sotrefy: toK-aijeTifc -rbice, give his influence and active exertions toward removing this withering, blasting, accursed traffic, from our midst. For making an "unusual, loud, clamorous noise," and conducting himself in a manner disgraceful even s for . a liquprseller, Charles Leive was fined 95 the costs amounting to about $20 more," in the Mayor's Court on Monday last At the saine time, bis colored prat ner, Jordon White, for aiding bina, . we . assessed $ 7.90 fin ami post, which was' paid by hta friend and companion Leive:

Even if their bus iness has increased beyond ttheir calculation, it famishes no" : l eason why ladies should be compelled to walk in the streets or lear their dresses as they pass along, or why j men should be stumbling, and falling backwards, over the barrels and boxes, at every little fight. We are informed that one of onr citizens was seen at a late hour, one night last week, wading the river at the foot of Main street, with something like a game bag ' suspended from his shoulders, and his boots and unmentionables under hi m Thfehignt was cold, and the water colder, and he he was hardly to blame if he did imbibe something from that game bag on reaching the shore. Remember there are more tharra scire of open eyes all night at the Paper Mill who take a note of all night passers. The temperance crusade fight, is not only effecting - the whisky, but also the vinegar " trade.' One day last week one of our citizens, who has sometimes been suspected of being an itemizer,. took his big black jug and started for the grocery to get a gallon of vinegar On his way np Central avenue he observed n half dozen or more ladies who had accidentally fatten in line on the side walk coming towards him. He at once concluded that the "women's movement" had started 'in Milton, and " thinking that if he should meet them, his black jug might attract their prayerful attention, he, to avoid them, turned down an alley end returned home, telling his wile he guessed they would do without vinegar until the war is over - , The notice made among rirhtst items to the Palladium, in relation to the Young Ladies Literary Club, was formally read n t it fcwt-meet ing. and a committee appointed to ascertain and report who Index is, with a view to prevent any further disclosures of the Society's procoBdidga.i A certain veaag t&an p snspocted, who has a lady friend in tLeClnh, from whom His supposed he gets his infarmationon Sunday evening,r The other members, who . have no. bcanx, ; feelings indignant towards their more fortunate sister,
