It ia perhaps well known that the plan adopted by the society, for furnishing relief . to the unfortunate and suffering poor, in our midst, has been as - far as practicable,' to furnish . employment" at remunerative prices to all those who could render service. By this means our efforts to relieve the wants and sufferings of many bavo been successful, and no inarr baa resulted to the feeling - of . Independence, and self-respect which telf-relianee inspires. We are fortunate in the services of a Matron and assistant, whose patience, forbear ance and humane feelings make this noma lor me poor neipiess e&iid, a place of f joy and, comfort, where," if a mother's loving voice is not beard, the Y ' . i a ' ' . 4 . - grief for her absence is seldom felt, We are rarely required to keep the children long with us, as permanent homes are usnally found in a short timeand to which they are transfer red under the care of a committee who makes it a point of duty to aeo as far as possible . that the home is suitable and the applicant wbithy of so high trust and responsibility. . , t; -, t . Fo Clerhvm o in this city p ay until curtd. Fend 'or ci'cular. 4r TUB CATJSS AKO CUBE OF COX. 8UHFTION. The primary canae of Consnmptlon is derangement of the dlgeettre organs. Thia derangement prodoces deficient nutrition and as similation. By assimilation, I mean that process by which the nutriment of the food is converted into blood, and thence Into the solids of the body. Persons with digestion thus impaired, having the slightest predisposition to pulmonary disease, or . If they take cold, will be rcry liable to bare Con- . sumption of the Lungs In some of its forms ; and X hold that It will be impossible to cure any case of Consumption without first restoring a good digestion and healthy assimilation. The Tety first thing to be done Is to cleanse the stomach and bowels from all diseased mucus and slime which are clogging these organ ao that they cannot per. form their functions, and then rouse up and restore the liver to a healthy action. For this pur. poe, the surest and best remedy is Schenck's Handrake Pills. These Pills clean the stomach snd bowels of all the dead and morbid slime that la causing disease and decay in the whole system. They will clear out the liver of all diseased bile that has accumulated there, and arouse it np to a new and healthy action, by which natural and healthy bile is secreted. . s ' l The stomach, bowels, and liver are thus cleansed by the use of Schenck's Ilandrake Pills ; but thero remains in the stomach an excess of acid, tbe organ is torpid and the appetite poor. In the bowels, the lacteals are weak, and requiring strength and support It is In a condition like this tbst ' Schenck's Seaweed Tonic prove to be the most valuable remedy ever discovered. It is alkaline. and ita use will neutralize all excess of acid, mak ing the stomach sweet and fresh; it will giva permanent tone to thia Important organ, and create a good, hearty appetite, and prepare the eystern for tbe Arat process of a good digestion, and ultimately make good, healthy, living blood. At ter this preparatory treatment, whst remains to care most esses of Consumption is the free and ' persevering nse of SchencsTa Pulmonic Syrup. The Pulmonic Syrup nourishes the system, purifies the blood, and is readily absorbed into the ' circulation, and thence distributed to the diseased longs. There it ripens all morbid matters, wheth er in the form of abscesses or tubercles, and then assists Nature to expel all the diseased matter in the form of freo expectoration, when once it riMens. It is then, by the great healing snd purifying properties of Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup, . that all ulcers and cavities are healed up sound, and my patient is cured. Q Tbe essential thing to be done in curing Consumption Is to get up s good appetite and a good digestion, so that the body will grow in flesh and get strong. If a person has diseased longs, a cavity or abscess there, the cavity cannot heal, the matter cannot ripen, to long ss the system is be low par. What is necessary to cure is a new order of tdngs. a Rood appetite, a good nutrition, : th body to grow in flesh and get fat: then Nature is helped, the cavities will heal, the matter will ripen and be thrown off in large quantities, snd the person regain health and strength. Thia ia the true and only plan to core Consumption, and if a person is very bad, if the lungs are not entirely destroyed, or even if one lung ia entirely rone, if there is enough vitality left m the other to heal up. there ia hope. I nave seen many persons en red, witn only one sound tans, live and enjoy life to a trood i I old i I age. Thia is what Schenck's Medicines will do to cure Consumption. They will clean out the stomach, sweeten snd strengthen it, get np a good digestion, snd give Nature tbe assistance she needs to clear the system of a'l the disease that is in the sane, whatever tbe form mav be. It is important that, while using Schenck's Medicines, care should be exercised not to take cold: keep in-doors in cool ana aamp weather; avoid n Urn t -air, ana take omvoour exercise oulv in a genial and warm sunshine. I wish it distinctly understood that when I re. ' commend a patient to be careful In regard to taking cold while nslug my medicines, I do so for a special reason. A man who baa bat pan tally recovered from tbe effects of a bad cokl is liar more liable to a relapse than one who haa been entirely cured, and it is precisely the same in regard to Consumption. Bo long as the range are not per fectly lieaJed, just so lone Is there imminent ger or a full return or the diseases Hence it ia tnat I so strenuously caution pulmonary patients against exposing themselvea to an atmosphere that ia not eenial and pleasant. Confirmed Consumptives' lungs are a masa of sore, which the least change of atmosphere will inflame. Tbe grand secret of my success with my medicines consists in my sbilfty to subdue Inflammation Instead of provoking it, aa many of tbe lacnlty do. An inflamed lane cannot with safety to the pastent be exposed to tbe biting biasta of winter or the chilling winds of spring or autumn.- It should be caremlly shielded from all irritating influences. Tbe utmost caution should be observed In this particular, as without it a cure tmder almost any circumstances is an impossibility. . Tbe person should be kept on a wholesome snd nutritions diet, sod all the medicines euntimuul , until the body hsa restored to it the natural ' quaniiiy oi nesn ana sireogtn, ; I was myself cared by this treatment of the worst kind of Consumption, snd bavo lived to &fat and hearty these many years, with one 'mostly Rone. I have cured thousands since, very many have been cured by UUa treatment whom Ihave never aeen. - About tbe 1st of October, I expect to take posmvw """raa as we nonneast corner of Sixth and Arch Streets, where lahall be y'anssn to give advice to an who may require It, ui, uimuuis winiBay nu mv femeoies, so netson m anv nart of tha wniM Mn ha Mil. i in mnj pen or ue worM can be rei uj Hum uj a buu uoeervance oi tnsameL .
