The State and Presidential Campaigns of 1872 will be the most important, in many respects, in which the two great political parties now in existence have ever been engaged. Tbe Democracy are making insidious efforts to obtain the control of tbe National Government, and it ia essential that the people bo " kept thoroughly apprised of their movement, as well as oi the claims of the Republican party to a continuance of tbe eoaftdenoa which has been reposed in it for the last twelve years'. In tbe State the issues will be very important : they wilt comprise the questions of po- . litical honesty and economic government; whether public servants can prostitute the public funds to their own private use, thus corrupting the service, and making out of tbe State offices more places of pelf for plunderers. Tbe people will be called upon to decide whether the crimes and blunders of the Democratic party, shall be fastened upon tbe State for another term. Tbe corruption and imbecility of the laat Legislature has been a by-word oi reproach ever since it closed ita s session. Everv reform measure demanded by the people, and promised by the Democracy failed of passage by that body, and ita history is as infamous as that of any General Assembly which has ever disgraced tbe annuals of legislation. The people, are to pronounce . judgment upon all these matters, and it ia essential that they be thoroughly prepared to render a just verdict. ' . THE INDIANAPOLIS JOURNAL Ranks with the foremost amonv fearless aad independent newspapers. Believing In tho Erinciples cf the Republican party, which ave so often been endorsed by tho people, it will advocate, with all its seal, tho purification of that party from any taint of anspicion, . and tbe continuance of it in power, both In tie Stato and Nation, as tbe best guarantee of ; an honest and strong government, peace and security everywhere, honesty and economy in the finances, and a healthful and prosperous r development in the commerce and industry of bo country.
