RICHMOND, DEC. 7, 1869. Candidates for Congress. Several

of the papers of this (4th) Congression

al District have expressed - their prefer

ence - for Hon. Jbrre Wilson, as their next candidate for representative honors. From the various reports reaching us, as to the condition of Hon. Geo. W. Julian's health, his shattered nervous condition, which is tho result of his arduous political duties 'and great anxiety for4 the public welfare, that has caused him to forego sleep to such an extent that his life is despaired of, it is supposed by his most intimate friends that he will not be able to' " attend the meeting of Congress at iCs assembling the first of coming session. - and that his physical condition is such that it vill preclude his being a candidate for the place he now occupies. ConsKLiLS Katliff. Incidentally alluding to the old subscribers of the Palladium; in the presence of our friend

Ratliff, he stated to us that he thought

he had taken it about as long a time as

any one else, and that his subscription dated to the first No. printed and published by Thomas J. Larsh nearly thirty-nine years ago. We find by referring to the old subscription books, that he w3 correct. He .has been with t lie present proprietors, HoJloway & Davis,) for nearly thirty-three years, and we hope to supply him with the old Pal. for many years' more." -,; For fifty-nine years he has resided on the same farm, just north of and adjoining Richmond, that he settled on when he first landed in Old Wayne from the State of North Carolina. He will be seventy-two'years of age next Christmas, and, to prove to us that he was yet vigorons,he informed us.that last winter, he cut his cord of wood and pil-ed it up

in a day, and, during last harvest, he made a full hand in the field! Cornelius Ratliff, is a fair eample of the vigorous old men yet living in the good old county of Wayne and State of Indiana, and we shall, from time to time, pay our respects to those old men and fast friends who have aided us by their coun sel and support ; in keeping our paper afloat and sustaining ua;. for which we hope ever to feel crateful.
