On , Monday, last,' a little son of Mr. Thomas Hicket, aged about 12 years, met his death at Bur son's Oil Mill, in the following manner as near as we can learn: Mr. H. has been an employe at that mill for several years,' and his little son has usually brought his dinner to him. On Monday, he brought his father's dinnerp and, either seated himself on a keg or stood in front of it near the wall, where a large , iron frame,- weighing about six hundred pounds, was leaning. The frame seems to have been drawn forward from the wall by the boy, and off its ballance, throwing him backward across the keg, with the full force and weight of the frame on top of him, crushing him and! breaking his back. He died in about 15 or 20 minutes after the accident. ', Truth ia Immortal. f Truth never dies. It is immutable and unchanging as the Deity. It is the only sure foundation on which to build. Founded upon this rock, the surging billows of revolution are powerless to destroy. Amid the contending elements of political and religious combatants, where the wsr was carried to the : blade, aad wttere the blade is dripping to the hilt in crimson gore, whatever of truth exists with either contending parly, will aurviva the confusion and the carnage of the' battle hoar. Silent," modestly but steadily it moves right on. - If crushed, amid the da-,, bris of tinman passion and cupidity, it 1 rises ' again ' ! brighter and stronger for the baptism of blood. Like a blazing meteror ha passes through and electrifies the morbid conditions of society, and prepares the way for a more just and equipoised condition ot the elements of . mentality. The ages of the shadowy past have revealed embodimeats of philosophy that were scouted, persecuted. drenched with hemlock or nailed to the cross. ; Tha sacrificial fires Of their martyrdom consumed the veil tlrat obscured their spiritual perception of truth, so 1 thai they after a time enrolled their names upon the scroll of the immortal gods.1 btep by step truth ascends the mount of final and perfect transfiguration. As liumanity rises above its priabatii'e conditions of - animalitrtit begins to comprehend that the highest aad most perfect development of truth in any age, is' not comprehended by the wisdom of that age. 'fZoraster, Confucius, Socrates, Plate and others oc-; copy a conspicuous place on the page of history, and : each in his time, made deep Indentations upon tba fossolized conditions of society, which prepared for each successive philosopher an advanced position and a more perfect unfoldment of the philosophy of truth, . Thus it baa been in tha alow tread ot the past agea, and thas it will be in the unrevealed future. . PLAIN
To Invalids and the Public: 1 H , Dr. A. M. French, formerly of New YorL City, respectfully announces that he has resumed practice, and will, for many years to come, visit monthly nearly all of the principal cities of the Union at stated periods for treatment of all forms of chronic disease. , , Having j ust re. turned from Europe where he has for the past ten tears been devoting his time exclusively to the treatment of patients in the principal hospitals in France, England and Germany, he can assure the afflicted that in all chronic dis eases he can safely be relied upon. Among the chronic ailments which he cures he would mention the following. ' V All diseases of the Liver, usually called Liver Complaint, all affections of the Lungs, such as Cons umption,(Jough8, Bronchitis, Loss of Voice, Sore Throat, Asthma, etc., etc ; Dyspepsia, or Sourness of the Stomach after meals, Spitting up of Food, Belching of Wind, . Constipation of the Bowels, Sick Headache, Neuralgia in every form, all affections of the Kidneys and Bladder, Rheumatism. Dropsies, Palpitation of the Heart, Epilepsy or Fits, Scrofula, all diseases of the Blood, Eruptions, Salt Rheum, Genet il Debility, Nervousness, and all diseases peculiar to the Female system. - - Having, as above stated, made all the above and their kindred complaints a long lite study, and ha vine seen, personally examined and trea ted successfully hundreds of cases afflicted with each variety of these diseases, Dr. French feels confident that in offering his services to the afflicted world in this way, he is simply acting in the line of duty, lie has no desire to be any thing less than - strictly honorable with all who may seek his aid, and will therefore still adhere to the rule he adopted in early life, nev er to flatter the sick and inspire hopes of recov ery, unless the case admits of no doubt in that respect. Many cases being incurable, and as he does not wish to pat any of this class to ex pense, he has devised a way in which his opin ion may be obtained free f charge, ihe par ticulars in regard to this will be given under the head of "Waste of Time. All persons who may think of consulting Dr. French, siiould read this whole column before calling on him personally, or making up their minds what - is best for them to do. Ihe sick are so often dis appointed in their search for means of relief so often nattered bv tr.e dishonest and inspired with hopes that were never realized that it i not a matterof wonder that they have in many instances grown sick at heart ani yielded to despair. Dr. French will deal honorably with all, believing that always to be the best policy His fees for treatment will be reasonable, and not be required from any patient until a cure is effected, and his charge for medicines will bo only what they cast him. His appointments are as follows: n NEW YORK CITY, tha first day of each month. PHILADEIHIA, PENN of each month. the second day BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, the third day of each month. . . v . WASHINGTON', DC, the fourth day o each month. 5 - PITTSBURGH, PENN., the sixth day of each month. . ..." i; - : -. CLEVELAND, OHIO, the seventh day ol each month. " COLUM BUS, OHIO, the eighth day of each month. . CINCINNATI, OHIO, the ninth day of each month. LOUISVILLE. KY the eleventh day of each month. STL LOUIS, MO, the thirteenth day of each month. , DUBUQUE, IOWA, the fifteenth day of each month. : : i CHICAGO, ILL., the eeventcenth day of each month. MILWAUKEE, WIS., the eighteenth day of each month. DETROIT, MICHIGAN, the twentieth day of each month. TORONTO, C. W., the twenty-third day of each month. BUFFALO, N. T. day of each month.' on the twenty-sixt OyThe nmcs of the hotels at which Dr French will stop while visiting the foregoing .cities have not been inserted because he must necessarily change them from time to time. The omission is unimportant, however, as a!! patients are required to write him a letter before coming to see him and in his reply the name ol the Hotel will bo given. (Seo the article below i a j nv in r T1;, ,i Dr. F..s object in making the foregoin- visits . afr,ni ,u arsoni a less exnonsive tnikan ,s to aUJfa an parsons a less expensive means of treatment than if they were : compelled to travel many hundreds of miles for that purpose. WASTE OF TIME. 'I . - ' - There are only about thbbe-fipths of the cases of chronic disease that admit of positivb isd raptcaTj cube. Onehalf of the incurables can be, under favorable circumstances, much benefitted, and the other half only palliated. L I am willing to treat any case and do what I can for it, but it so happens that a very largv i aumber of those patients whose complaints cani if not be wholly eradicated do not wish to under ! go treatment. ; Now as my time at each point I visit is all needed in examining and treating tho curable cases it would be a waste of time for me to bestow my attention upon those whom 1 . cannot cure. Schencka Pulmonic (Syrup,
BaawaasVl asbaa. Maadraka -fiHay-will a .Coasumption, Liver Complaint and Dyspapsia, if takaa according to tba directions. They ara all three to ba taken at tba aama tiaie. Tbay cleanse tba stomach. relax the liver, and jat it U work, then, the appatita becomes good; tba food, digests and makes good blood; the patient begins to grow ia flesh; tba diaaaaed matter ripens in the lungs, and the patiant out-, grows ths disease and gets well. Tkis ia tba only way to core Consumption. , To these three medicines, Dr. J, ; H. Schsnck, of Philadelphia, owes bis nnrivaled succes in tha treat ' ment of Pulmonary Consumption.' Tho Pulmo ia Syrup ripens the morbid matter in the lungs, n a turn throws it off by an easy expectoration, for wben tba phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough will throw it off, and the patient has rest' and the lunga begin to beal. f . ' ' To do this, the Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Fills must b freely used to cleanse the stomach and liver, so that the Pulmonic Syrup and the food will make good blood. ' - : '". -: ' Schenck'8 Mandrake Pills act npon the liver, removing all obstructions, relax the ducts of tba gall bladder, the bilo starts freely and the liver is soon relieved; the stools will show what the Pills can do. Nothing has ever uaen invents I except calomel (a ,. deadly poison which is very dangerous to use unless . with greatcare) that will unlock the gall bladder and start the secretions of the liver like Schenck's Mandrake's PUla. , . ''"0" V V-''-Liver Complaint is one of the most prominent eaases of consumption. :- " V l Schenck's Seaweed Tonic is a'gentle stimulant and alterative, and the alkali in the Seaweed, which thia preparation is made of, assists the stomach to throw out the gastric juice to dissolve the food with the Pulmonic Syrup, and it is made into good blood without fermentation in the stomach. The great reason why physicians do not cure Consumption is, they try to do too mocb; they give medicine to stop the coughs, to stop chills, to stop night , sweats, hectic fever, and by so doing they derange the whole digestive powers, locking up the secretions, and eventually the patient sinks and dies. . Dr. Schenck, in his treatment, d iea not try to stop a cough, night sweats, chills or fever. . Remove the cause, aud they will all stop of their own accord. No one can be cured of Consumption, Liver , Complaint, Dyspepsia, Catarrh, Canker, Ulcerated Throat unless the liver and stomach are made bealthy. If a person has oonsninpti6n,'of course the" lungs, in so ne way, are diseased, either tubercles, abscesses, bronchial irritation, pleura adhesion, or theVngt are a mass of inflamation and last decaying. In sueh cases what "must be duneT It is not only the lungs that are wasting, but it is the whole body. The stomach and liver have lost their power to make - blood out of food." : Now, the only chance is to taaa Dr. Schenck's three medicines, which will bring up a tone to the stomach, the patient will begin towant food, it will digest easily and make good blood; then t'.ie patient ' begins to gain in flesh, and, as soon as the body begins to grow, the luings commence to be'1 up and the patient gets fleshy and well. ; This' is the only way to cure Consumption. . ? - When there is no lung disease, and only Liver Complaint and Dyspepsia, Schenck's Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are sufficient, without the Pnlmonicsyrnp. Take the Mandrake Pills freely in all billious complaints as they are perfectly harmless. Dr. Schenck, who has enjoyed uninterrupted health lor many years past, and now weighs 225 pounds, was wasted away to a mere skeleton in the very last staga of Pulnionarr Consumption, his physicians having pronounced bis case hopeless and abandoned him to his fate. He was cured by the afore said medicines, and since his recovery many thou sands similarly afffictel have used Dr. Schenck's preparations with the s same remarkable success. Full directions accompany each, making it not aosolntelynecessary to personally see Dr. Schenck, unless patients wish their langs examined; and for thia purpose he is professionally at his principal oince Philadelphia, every Saturday, where all lettera lor advice must be addressed. : , Price of the Pulraonio Syrup and Seaweed Tome, each 1 50 per bottle, or $7 50 a palf dozen.
