' ' " v' 1 '- For the Palladium Henry Vincent as a Treacher.
There is perhaps no one man who would create so much enthusiasm, and command so much . respect and esteem' from' the citizens of Richmond, as the English Orator who has bnen with us both ' this and last winter. 'Knonn as be is to our citizens, aa a popular lecturer, be i now known to them as no less a popular preacher. The sermon on Sabbath evening,-reb. th, (in the UniUd frosbyterian Church on North 8th St.) as it came from his' lips, appeared more to us as one of America's ablest Divines, than Henry Vincent the lecturer. v' He tooks his text Ps. 25 5 verse; "Lead me in thy truth, aud teach me." It would be vain for ben to attempt a description of the beautiful symetry, the arguments and illustrations, as presented by Mr. Vincent.. l?t VI H bljf. J ri.'- : ' Huffice it to say that it was one of the ablest and most effective sermons we ever listened to. hkeptica were made to tremble and weep nnder its power. Infidelity had not a point on which to bang for safe ty. All arguments, illustrations and appeals were made with such force and power as to rivet the at-! tentionof all his hearers. , If attention shows appreciation (and it certainly does) -Mr. Vincent's sermon must hare been fully appreciated. The Church was densely packed, and scores of individuals thou' standing, were held motionless by the power of gospel trnth as presented. - - .-,' S ; " ; Henry Vincent has gone again but not without the prayers of many warm friends following him.
