alliulium. RICHMOND. IND., NOV. 7, 1867. WHAT I HATE. 1 bate the toothache, wlien with maddening jumps. Like torrent wild it raved among the stamps ; I bite the whole dire catalogue of aches, IHsterr.pers, fevers hot, and ague sbafces. 1 hate mad dogs, snakes, dandies flea s, and bugs. Tea parties, wild eaU and whisky -jugs, "ll ird limes, lad roads, pilol fi9h, and broken banks, Mile news, could souplight purse, and law thanks. I hate long stories, anl short ears of corn. A costl v farm-house, and a shabby barn; More curs than pig, no books, bnt many guns, Pore toes, tight shoes, old debts, and paper dun. I hate tight lacing, and loose conversation, Abcndant grab, and little information ; The fool that sings in bed and snores in meeting. Who laughs while talking, and talks much while eating. How the Parson got Excitbd. A few years since, near the city of N , in Connecticut, lived and preached old parson P , who was excitable and near-sio-b ted. One day he had been to ! the city with his horse, and among his j purchases was a barrel of llour, the head of which was partially out. Oh the way home, the old man was overtaken and passed by a fast young man, driving a fast horse, and putting on 'much' airs. Now the parson's horse was usually a quiet, steady-going animal enough, but he couldn't stand that sort of thing; so he started after hira of the fast order, in good earnest. The jolting of the wagon at length jarred the head completely out of the barrel, and the strong wind which was blowing directly after the parson, blew the flour all over him and the horse. At last the fast young man was left, and the village reached; but the speed of the horse was not checked. In driving through a 6trect to reach his home, he came in contact with one of his deacons, who was naturally surprised to see his minister driving at such pace, and signaled him to stop. "Why, Parson P ," said he, "what on earth is the matter? You seem greatly excited." "Excited," yelled the old man, "excited! who in the h-1 wouldn't be excited? snow storm in July. Get up Dobbin!'' The deacon smiled, but let the parson investigate the meteorological phenomena at his leisure. Hi . Fun in Animals. Fan is by no means confined to man. It is frequently asserted that, although naturalists have discoved and named the "laughing jackass," the "laughing hyena," the "laughing cockatoo," there is but one animal which really indulges in "what yon might call a laugh," and that is our old friend the dog. The horselaugh is a humbug; but the horse would laugh if he could, for he is not deficient in the sense of the numerous. We have known in onr time a sly old horse which would slide up to a bystander and put his hoof on the nnfortnnate wight's foot in a manner which would not soon be forgotton. It was a common trick with him; bnt no professed practical joker could have done it with his sole in a more inadvertant manner. The comedy of "The World a Mask," declares that "a horse is a gentleman;" and this niay give us a key to the gravity of our Eclipses and Dobbins, since a horse-laugh has long heen regarded as anything but gentlemanly. Col. O'Kelly's parrot would scream for the dosr Rover until he obeyed her summons, and then frightened him away by "Get out." Small birds chase each other about in play; but perhaps the conduct of the crane and the trumpeter is the most extraordinary. The latter stands on one leg; hops about in the most eccentric manner, and throws summersaults. All animals pretending violence in their play, stop short of exercising it. The dog takes the greatest precaution not to injure by his bite; and the ourangoutang, in wrestling with his keeper, pretends to throw him and makes feints of biting him. Some animals carry out in their play the semblance of catching their prey; young cats, for instance, leap after every small and moving object, even to the leaves strewed by the autumn wind; they 'crouch and steal forward, ready for the spring, the the body quivering and the tail vibrating with emotion, they bound on the moving leaf, and again spring forward to another. Benger saw young jaguars and cougars playing with round substances like kittens. Birds of the magpie kind are full of mischief. There is a story of a tame magpie, that was seen a garden gathering pebbles and with much solemnity and a studied air, buried them in a hole made to receive a pot. After dropping each stone, it cried "currack!" triumphantly, and set out for another. On examining the spot, a poor toad was found in the hole, which the magpie was stoning for amusement. There is fun in animals and birds. Indeed there is. There is much good sense and truth in the remark that no man ever prospered in the world without the co operation of his wife. If she unites in mutual endeavors, or rewards his labors with an endearing smile, with what confidence will ho resort to his merchandise or his farm, fly over lands, sail upon the seas, meet difficulty or encounter danger, if he knows he is not spending his strength in vain, bat that his labor will be rewarded by the sweets of home.

These svnip. toms are often the prelude to serious illness. Some fit oi sickness is creeping upon you, and should be averted by a timely use of the right remedy. Take Ayer's Pilis, and cleanse oat the disordered humors purify the blood, and let the fluids move on unobstructed in health again. They stimulate the function! of the body into vigorous ae tivity, purify the system from the ODStrueuons wnicu mass disease. A cold settles somewhere in the body, and obstructs its natural functions. These, if not relieved, react upon themselves and the surrounding organs, producing general aggravation, suffering, and disease. While in this comlition, oppressed by the derangemetts, take Ayer's rills, and see how directly they restore the natural action of the system, and with it the buoyant feeling of health again. What is truo and so apparent In this trivial and common complaint, is also true in many of tlio deep-seated and dangerous distempers. The same purgative effect expels them. Caused by similar obstructions and derangements of the natural functions of ths body, they are rapidly, and many of them surely, cured by the same means. None who know the virtues of these Tills, will neglect to employ them when suffering front the disorders they cure. Statements from leading physicians In some of ths principal cities, and from other well known publia persons. From a Forwarding Merchant of St. Lota, Feb. , 1959. It forms the sole Western link of the only route to the I'acific which is adopted by Congress and aided by the imic of United States lionds.
