A strange idea seems to prevail in regard to the administration of justice in our Mayor's court, by Borne of the " un terrified," who, because Mayor Yocno happens to be a democrat, think it ( is only necessary for them to plead that they, too, are 'democrats, in order to escape , punishment. In this they are entirely mistaken; for he dispenses justice alike on all who happen to come before him, without regard to their political status. Recently one of our policemen took up an old gentleman, who besides being bald-headed was filled with bald-face whisky. After getting him to the entrance of the Hotel de Calaboose, and opening the door, this happy man looked in, and, drawing himself up with considerable dignity and speaking with confident emphasis, he exclaimed : Why, you ain't going to put me down there ! I'm- a good Democrat !' Bat the plea was of no use, and in he went. He stayed there . until Monday morning, when the Mayor charged him 86 for board and lodging. Being destitute of anything but a ten cent postal" he was remanded to the care, of Street Commissioner Haner, to work the fine out on the street, when one of his' friends from Centreville relieved him. Geo. W. Ross, is recovering he wss able to sit on the jury at the dog trial.
