We are gratified to learn that Yaryan, (our young friend Homer,) Walker & C, stiuck oil at Spring Creek, Overton county, Tcnn., on the 13th, and up to the 15th, it had Mowed continuously, at the rate of 30 barrels a da says the Nashville Banner of the 18th. They were kindly cared for by Mr. Salter, and the best accommodations the Hotel afforded were placed at their disposal. Tint 4 Tremont House" is now in complete running order, and all the necessarymachinery for making travelers feel entirely at home, are in harmoneous operation. Mr. Johx Elliott's experience as a landlord, enables him to do the honors of "Mine Host," in 6uch an acceptable and pleasing manner that always insures a continuance of patronage, from those who once partake of his generous fare and hospitality. Tub "Grand Army of the Republic" meet on cverj- Friday night of each week, at their Booms on Main street., in the lladley Building. They have just had painted a line Sign to hang out on the night of the meetings of the Post iu this city, that is neat and decidedly appropriate. Look out for it on Friday night. Prkss ixo. We again call the attention of our farmers and others to the Kayner Patent Lard Press, now manufactured and sold by Ezra Nyb fe Buo., at their Stove and Tinware Store near the Depot in this city. It is decidedly one of the cheapest, best, and most economical Presses lor squeezing out the Lard ever yet iuveuted, and every farmer should have one for his own use. Call and see it. A SiiATixG Park. We learn that Mr. Samuel L. Foulkk, of Philadelphia, has determined to erect a Skating Park, iu the bottom, just Nort'i of the National Bridge, and just below the Gas Works. It is the design of the enterprising pro j jeetor, to have small houses built on the i margin of the Park, warmed by stoves, and have every thing necessary and convenient for those who love thi3 sensible and pleasant exercise. Several of our leading and liberal citizens have contributed generously towards this enterprise. Good! there's life in Richmond yet! from the street, through the window of Mr. K.'s house. New Map of Wayne County. Messrs. I Gkkceu fc Warrek, are now iu our city j obtaining subscribers for a new Map of I not only our county, but a complete plat of our City, and 6f every town and village w ithin the limits of "Old Wayne." Every farm in the county is accurately ; laid off, and the owner's name and exaet location of his dwelling appears on , Map. We have been permitted to the permitted to ex amine the plan of this Map, and in our opiuiou, it is decidedly the most thorough and correct one w e have yet seen it is decidedly Me County as it is. We trust this enterprise will meet with the encouragement its merits deserve, and that our citizens will all subscribe for it. Mayor pro. teu. In consequence of the feeble state of Mr. Fixley's health, thedutiesof Mayor, for the time being, will b j performed by James M. Poe, Esq., j commencing on Friday morniug(to morI row). From the fact of the Mayor's j illness, the Police Court has been a failure since our last report, notwithstanding numerous guests have arrived at the Hotel de-Calaboose, who arc all anxious to loan the city their money for accommodations received. The Chief-of Po lice, having taken an obligation from each of the guests for their appearance on Friday morning, their anxious solicitude for the pecuniary condition of the citv will then be relieved. Hotel de Calaboose, Is pleasantly located in the center of our city, and has been thoroughly cleansed, whitewashed the rooms properly numbered, and all well ventilated and warmed. The several landlords ( Police) who preside over the establishment, devote their attention inauily to the safety of the guests, and meals are served frequently in taeir rooms. It is said to be a "temperance ! house," but we are disposed to doubt it ! from the fact that we have seen whiskv, I &c, conveyed into the different rooms, j like the Arabs carry their milk in siinn. The landlords are not to blame, for the guests will have it so. Council Proceedings. Nov. 20th, 1SGG. The petition of the Fat Contributor for the Council to grant him the privilege to lecture in Phillips Halt, Nov. 21st, 1866, without paying a license, was concurred in. j The petition of J. W. Plummor, W. i C. Starr et. al. praying that a Street ! Lamp Post be erected on or near the middle of Smith street, was referred to : the committee on Streets, with power to act. The prayer of N. S. Leeds, Eli Morrow, ct al. was nonconcured iu, and the order, placing in possession the property on the S. E. Corner of Pearl and Walnut Streets to the Union Relief Association, rescinded and thereby srrantiiiir the prayer of Daniel B. Cook, John H. Popp, ! ct. si. j The petition of Engine Co. No. 1, ! prnyiiiir that they be furnished with a I new Stove was granted and the Comi inittte on Fire Companie's instructed to : biiy it The request of Isaac Kinley for an j abatement of taxes was lajed upon the ! table. j The request of Bennett Banner, aski:ig the Council to reconsider their action on his bill for cleaning No. 1 Engine ' House and Grave Yard, was laid upon j the table. ' Stephen Mendenhall asked if he could not allow clear water to run from his bath House across Sycamore Street, between Fifth k Franklin Streets, which w as referred to the Committee on Streets. 'The request of Hasecoster k Stevens that thev be allowed to fulfill their con tract to convert a certain Gateway in the Baker House, Gilbert property, into a Dining room, was concurred in. Henry Grotendick was permitted to let his wooden building, on the North side of an alley running in rear of his lot, from Franklin to Fifth Streets, stand until next Spring. The report of the Marshal that A. M. Miller erected a wooden building over ten feet high, in the rear of bis business House, between Marion and Franklin Streets, and between Main street and the first alley North of said Main street, was referred to the Committee on Ordinan ces. The Committee on Claims reported in favor of allowing J. J. Roney, for servi ces as Market Master, 875.00. Dr d'Huv. for Medical Services, 833.00; Dr. W, T. Mendenhall, for Medical Ser vices, 844.00; T. H. Davis, for Medical Services, $15.00, and Jason Ham, for rent of a room in a building standing on the S. E. Corner of Main and Pearl, 85 00, and J. G. Doagan, for a lock to Engine House No. 4, nothing; all of which was concurred in. Geo. Hellan was allowed 86.00 in addition to the
84.00 that was allowed for fees ia case of Otten. The 812 that Dr. Hibbert paid to Henderson Macke was reimbursed to him. A select Committee of Messrs. Page, Laeey and Kelly was appointed to confer with Engine Company No 4 for appointing an Engineer for said Company. The Committee on Ordinances reported adversely to granting the prayer of Eli Evans for converting a stable into a wooden dwelling house, which was accepted. The Committee on Ordinances was instructed to draught an Ordinance preventing cattle from running at larg3 in the City of Richmoud. The City Auditor reported that he issued an order, Nov. 6, for 850 01 in favor of the Clerk on account of salary, and also one for 835 00 in favor of the Auditor on same aceo; nt The Secretary of Engine Company No. 4 reported th tt aid Company electe 1 Irvin Brown Engineer for the balance of the year, which report was referred to the select Committee of Page, Laeey and Kelly. , A Bill Entitled "An Ordinance protecting the public against Dangerous Diseases," and one entitled "An Ordinance to establish a Board of Health and define its duties and powers," were read the second time and made the order of day for next meeting. A Resolution was adopted, providing that all of the land or territory "laid otf into lots, and platted and recorded," or that may hereafter be "laid off into lots and platted or recorded," Iting contiguous to, and adjoining the present corporate limits of said City, be attached to and form a part of the City of Richmond, and be within its jurisdiction. An Ordinance was passed regulating the salary nd fees of City Officers. Ard one to punish Vagrancy; and one making appropriation enabling Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 to procure their Wagon and apparatus. The Marshal was instructed to contract with a person who will board prisoners before they have been turned over to the Street Commissioner, for not more than twenty five cents per meal. The Bill Entitled "An Ordinance to amend an Ordinance," entitled "An Ordinance regulating public safety, ccgnfort and convenience'' was ordered to le taken from the table. Adjourned.
