In Jauuary, 1861, he was appointed private secretary to Got. Morton, in which capacity he perved np to May, 1S64, when be resigned, having been offered a Urjjer salary in the city of Xew York. In July, 14, the leading members of the Union partv at Indianapolis, bating become dissatisfied with the manner in which the leadinoran of the party (the Daily Journal) was conducW, decided that a change in its management had become necessary, and they ielected CoJ. II illoway U become the purchaser of th.it establishment. Negotiations were entered into for the purchase of the office, and in Auirnst of that year, the office passed into the hand and unj-r the control of Col. H. the purcha.se money having becr generously loaned hiir. by two w eaithy personal frieiids in the city of Xew York, both of whom had lornv?rly re-idid in this State and one ol them, for iiunv year i, iu this city. So man who has any personal knowlc-le of th Journal office for the past three years, can doubt for a sinltf nicnie nndtT tha encregetic m iMagem.-nt of Col. Holloaj. We ask partlon of Col. 11. for the liberty we hare taken in thus parading his private affairs before the public: but as he preiv up under our eye in the old Palladium office, we naturally feel an interest in his reputation and success in life. We should have stated above that the income n Col. Ilolloway, included uot only the profits arrising from the business of the office during tUe year previous, but that arising from the sale of his interest in the Journal office. We take the liberty of sujrjestiug to the editor of the "family organ" a more legitimate matter of public concernment, than the income of W. R. Holloway, and that is; the extra amount of $4,000 that his distinguished brother Ueorge, voted into his own pocket at the late session of Congress. Pursuade him, if he has got one spark of honor or honesty left in bis bosom, to return that money to the Treasurer of, the United States, from whence it was filched ttoUn, by, as the New York Tribune truthfully characterizes it, "a very unwise, selfish, cowardly unprincipled act." He can do more real good in trying to induce his brother to refund this illgotten money, than he possibly can do in attending to the private affairs of a private individual by hunting up and publishing the amount of his income tax, and then doubling it, and insinuating that his money was obtained in anything else than a legitimate and bonest way.
