Being only a temporary sojourner in this quiet Quaker Citj I am of course formation to your readers from this stand point, but merely attempt to give such impressions concerning matters and things most noticeable by a stranger. In visiting the several extensive machinery establishments of Richmond I have been particularly interested. The Threshiug Machines, Portable and Stationery Steam Engines, Horse Powers, Drag Saws, Ac, turned out by the Spring Foundry, and the Robinson Machine Works, compare most favorably, in my humble jodgment, with the most cele brated mannfacotries of this country. Their materials are selected with the utmost care, and pot together in a most durable and workmanlike manner. The proprietoas employ only first class mechanics whom they pay promptly and liberally, aud this circumstance is probably the great secret of their success. The same remarks apply to a Plow Manufactory on Main street, near 8th. Their work is no shoddy arrangement, but consists of the best material, put together in the most substantial manner. At the Woolen Mills I, noticed fabrics of manufacture that would do credit to Manchester, Middlesex, or LowelL Neither are . their prices exorbitant, which, these times, is considerable of a consideration. Thepeople of Richmond, aad of the entire country hereabout, have just canse to feel proud of the manufacturing interests of Richmond and vicinity, ant certainly can hare no reasonable excuse for not patronizing home manufactures. It having come to our knowledge that imitations of the American Watch have been put upon the market in great number, calculated by their utter worthlessne&s to iujure the reputation of our genuine products, to protect our own interests and the puUic from imposition, we again publish the trade marks by which our Watches may invariably be known. We manufacture four styles of Watches. The First has the name "AMERICAN WATCH CO., Waltham, Mass.," engraved on the inside plate. The Second has the name "APPLET0N, TRACY A CO., AValtham, Mass.,' engraved on the inside plate. The Third has the name 'P. S. BARLETT, Waltham, Mass.," engraved on the inside plate. All toe above styles have the name American Watch Co. painted on the dial, aod are warranted in every respect. The Foi rth has the name "W.U. ELLERY, B-iston, M:tss.," engraved en tbe inside plate, and is not named on the dial. And the above described watches are made of various sizes, aod are sold in gold or silver cases, as may be required. It ishardly possible for us to accurately describe tbe numerous imitations to which we have alluded. Tbey are usually inscribed with the names so nearly approaching our own as to escape the observation of the unaccustomed buyer. Some are represented as made by the "Union Watch Co., of Boston, Mass.," no such company existing. Some are named the "Soldier's Watch," to be sold as our Fourth or Wm. Ellery 'style, usually known as the "Soldier's Wstch." Others are named the Appleton Watch Co. ; " others the' P. S. BartXET," instead of our P. S. Bariett;" besides many varieties named in such A manner as to convey the idea that they are the varitable productions of the American Watch Company. We also caution the public, and particularly soldiers, -against buying certain articles called watrhes, s freely advertised in illustrated papers as "Army ; Watches," "Officers' Watche," "Magic Time Observers," "A rcana Watches," Ac, tbe prices of which are stated to be from seven to sixteen dollars. A good watch, in these times, cannot be afforded for any snch money. ' A little attention on the part of buyers will protect tbem from gross imposition. DR. SEEL YES LIQUID CATARRH REMEDY. !
