The Mission Sabbath School, had a very pleasant time on Christmas evening, at the Friends' Marion bt. Professor Mskdkmiali., of Earlliam College, was in attendance with a Magic Lantern, which added greatly to the interest of the occasion, indeed, was the principal feature. The exercises consisted of recitations, eiugiug, and answering general questions, showing a commendable interest and encouraging improvement on the part of the scholars. Heforc diemisaial, refreshments were distributed to the children. Union Chapel Sabbath School held a festival on Christmas evening. A handsome Christmas-tree was loaded with appropriate and pleasing presents. A Fair is in progress at Starr Hall, for the beuetltof St. Mary's( Irish)Catholic Church. Fifty Seventh Ind. An Electioneeriug Story. We.. heard r it saUi by an opponent of Maj ur Finler,
on the street that when bis salary nai raised by the Council from the pitiful , a.ynn .i i.. i . .,i t lUt p.u.uiaittouittoi 8.j00 per year, that it was done with the express understanding that he would be no lorger a candidate. This we are aui i i r i . -.i. tborized to braad as false aou without , . foundation- no such understanding ever existed or was thought of. The salary of the Mayor was raised from a sense of justice and right, that " the laborer is worthy his meat," and not for the purpose of "buying off" a candidate. The proposed " testimonial," of ilr. Finley's opponents, is nothing eUe but a ' tell,'' and wc arc glad that the venerable Mat-or treated it as a sensitive, sensible man should, with the s;orn and contempt it deserves. The Mayor's friends know that a bif.l iv hand, (the Mayor's of fice, ) it wfi-tii two in the ( testimonial" ) bush," aiid they intend to gi.-e him the most substantial "testimonial" of their regard, by triumphantly re-electing him. That's so ! We ak attention to the card of Mrs. KOHENSTIEL, in another column. She is the Widow Of BttO. RoSKNSTIEX, decas- . , , , , , , ed, and deserves and should receive a liberal share of the public patronage; more particularly from those whose dut' it is to help the widows ai.d fatherless. A word to a Brother is sutlicient, aud we trust all will take "notice and govern themselves accordingly." The cheapest, Ladies Hoods in town, can be found at Perky Hat .Store, cor. of 5th and Main. Call and examine styles and prices. Ladies Skating Boots at Cooks, next door to Kern fc F ox s Clothing House, corner Main and Franklin streets. "Our Testimonial." L. D. Sti bhs, Esq., is a good man a first rate man capable and honest, and yet, our advice to him is to withdraw from the contest for the ollice of Mayor, before he becomes one of the worst defeated men that ever run for office in this city. " Republics are ungrateful," is an often-used adue : but it cannot be made to apply to the city of Richmond, f will never sr tur pmve " ungrateful" as to consent 'o the defeat of Mayor Finlky.
