RICHMOND, IND.. DEC. 2tit. 1865.

The Winter Fashions. The winter having now take a op bi abode with us for a mtMoa a fact which we all feel through every fibre of our frame it la natural that people ahouM derote a litcle attention to winter garments and winter styles, which may now be considered as established. The firsfeature which la to be obserred in the prevailing mode is the ahowiness and cofitlincoa of ladies' attira. Itonneta. j huts. dresfs, cloak, almost every articl" J of ladies hpparel. ii more or les adorned f nith tinr-ls and po!d ornament, a kind of trimming; which i t-nrall.v couceded , o have a pretty effect when m1 in niol- ! ration, but which becomes vulgar and tawdry if used too lavishly. A eimilar j ; teud iicy is perceivable in tli colors j j which are for the most part coining into I vogue. Plain colors are almost entirely f j discarded by those who have any pretentions to be in the mode, and the windows of the dry goods Mores present j a s;ay and festive aspect with the bright j and cheerful colors of the dreoses which j are exposed. Red appears to be the j favorite color of the sett'on. It is used (r slniost every kind of dress and trim- j mines, from petticoat to children" t dresses. j it might hare been wished that among , otlu-r changes some new invention in the hac of ladies bonnets could hare been ' hit upon. But little or no change seems J to have been effected in this particular.! Velvet is the prevailinr material, with: ich decorations of ostrich feathers. The front is made of velvet, and tho f crown of satin, in some contrasting color. The small veils liavo gone out, I and are replaced by long an I wide float ! ;ing veils, which aro t onai lercd a: in iis- J pensabie appenlngeto lae 1 1 1 i i r bou- . ;net. . , j Hound hats, in the ustml variety of t nhnj.es, the three cornered, the "itn- i :rry turban, thecarulier or tiding hrtt, 1 nd the "Lady Derby,' 'still continue to b in demand among the yerj young i ladies. The last ramcd are sometime , made of felt, and were it not for the long reft, might almost be taken for a brunch of the pine family. Few novelties in these fabrics arc to j be nc-en at present. Expensive ood are "the rage." For ordinary wear, the -)tch linsey wolsey, or Hnsey, is. when niado of a!l wool, a very durable and warm dress for winter. It is to be pre- t fcrred for a walking dress to merino. Witlj regard to the styles there seems ' to be a revival of some of the old modes, . especially in evening dresses, which are rut low and square in front, but higher . in the bsek, with a large box plait, which ' hangs loose, the Bkirt trailing behind. 1 Ordinary dress skirts are very full, and 1 the round, high waist appears to be the t favorite, although many prefer the jackets. The coat sleeve ia still fsnhion- I able, and the aquare or Pompadour cor- j sage is considered stylish and becoming on a good figure. Very little change is to be seen in the i style of cloaks, l'asquines of heavy beaver cloth and t elvet are the leading, style. The trimmings principally used are fur, Astrachan cloth, black Angora j fringe, and others of fanciful style. A new military cloth or coat, with the cuffs, 1 pockets and large buttons, has recent- J made its appearance, but has not quite j come into fashion yet. Among .shawls, 1 the Magyar, the Allicia, Alexandra, nn 1 j the Beatrice are mostly worn. j Notwithstanding the frequent attempts ' to abolish hoops, these popular, if rather inconvenient institutions, areas much; in vogue as ever. They seem to be ' growing larger than before sometimes measuring as much tu live yards around. A great variety of new" India rubber goods has come into fashion among ' which may be mentioned the India rubber Afghan, or mosaic robe, which is a showy as well as a useful article, being at once duatproof, windproof and water , proof. ) A Illack Code Anuull.il. Orders from AVa'fiinpion to CJrncr:il ltiomas, comn)anli!ij tlic tuiont which includes the Stat, of .Misi..iP,.i. tho latter ottk-er is instructed t disro jrnrd tho "Black Code" of .Missii,..i. ; aa passed bv the lat-Lojrisiature. tnuier i the title of "An Act to confer civil; rights upon freedmen." The sole 1 object of the code is to re enslave the, negro, and if permitted to go into effect, i it would do so most effectually. t Gold Minis I the AttErtnttMKs. j The Philadelphia Sortk American ia ro- ! sponsible for an item about equally char-) acterized by generous confidence ami mystery, to the effect that rscent dis- j coveries and sxplorations have hown i that both gold and silver are to be found on the eastern slops of the AUeghenies in quantities u great, and with facilities J for proltable mining far exceeding the j richest lands in California, Nevada, Colorado or any portion of the 1 Dorado off that CTatat.
