Tt lie ttUturt of PmlMlmm : THE TOW.NSHIP LIBRARY. With your approval, I will furnish jo with notices of some of the book3 in ou Township Library. The books will be taken at random Some of the notices will be brief, atn'
I others more extended. Sometimes ' shall probably embrace sevrral books o ; the same kind in a few general remarks, ! sometimes a feingle book may occupy t i whole essay. Uy this ray endeavor, I ; shall hope to httract the attention of the reader to valuable books, whose titles would not allure him and warn him against others which would betray him into unprolitaMe renaing. 11 1 iau vj represent a book correctly, I hope others i not a thorough retiew. T . !- ! the following as a specimen of what I propose, I shall endeavor to be as imr.artial as mv illdirnuHit Will allow P. mswiuiuaiiii;, j-ui, awm; uanc ui service, that they may grow up to be use ful citizens, and self-reliant ; the women as independent of the men, as the men are of one another. The author perhaps dwells with too much stress upon the value and iutluence of the mother's health upon her offspring, he seems to forget the numerous instances on record of lively imaginations and vigorous understandings in persons of feeble or defective bodies, and of noble children from ignoble parents. Eve with every advantage in her favor, bore Cain, as well as Able. Tho writers lecture on Dress, very naturally led him to think of the peculiarity of the Quaker clothing. He speaks as if the cut and color of the cloth were canonical ; whereas, beyond a Christian simplicity, there is no uniformity required ; but color and quality as well as form, are left to the choice of each member. But this misapprehension is more than counterpoised by tho following extraordinary, if not extravagint eulogy of this people. It is all the more extraordinary for being the language of a clergyman. "Our Quaker brethren," says ho, "the Friends, than wlwm no purer and better people have ever lived noble followers of the lovely Prince of Peace, the truest friends that humanity has ever found, since the day of the Apostles, or that Jesus has ever had in the earth, the world renowned speakers of the sweet, plain language, which hath the charm of Liberty within it," &c. If the reader thinks this eulogy too highly wrought; and the flattery fulsome, let him take out another book, called "Qr AfvKKISM OU TIIK STOUY OF MY I II E, of which it is only needful to say, it is a vindictively malicious caricature. If it docs not banish all sympathy for, and admiration of the profession of that faith, it will fail only because it will not be believed. The author of Aims and Aids, in the chapter on Happiness, commends his reader to that iuicarj peace, Arc, and a j few page further on, rather strangely I advises the despondent yo.ng woman to take a hearty laugh, once a:i hou, through the day. The book is one that may be safely put into the hands of every mother and intelligent daughter in the country. Fine Display of Stock. Those eiuuiineiit stock raisers, D. Me.Millen of Zeiii.t, Ohio, Gen- Sol. Meredith and llortoa Ferguson Esq., of Wayne County have a splendid display of fine stock on the fair grounds. MeMillen 'Meredith's Cattle and Ferguson's Horses and Hogs are Among the finest animals in tlie ntition, and our farmers should not iqjss the opportunity of seeing them. Epitors op Pat-HPtr.
