I diaoapoli's, on Moodaj evening last, a eais t . t . . . v. . . . ion 01 me iztn jaicbigao Jjauery. wutou was on its wajr to the depot to Ubech ara for Ohio, exploded in the middle of the crossing of Tennessee end New York sta., instantly killing two men who were riding ob if, mortal wounding one of the riders, and also a boy who was stsnding on the sidewalk. The two latter died in a short lime after the accident. The two nren who were seated on the caisson, were blown at least 100 feet from the place of explosion and one was blown higher than any of the adjoining houses and thrown about 200 fet down Tennessee st. The editor of the Jourr1 MW'lUi"onft of th bo(iie -fur they bad been gathered np and deposited ' in an express wason: "We saw them as I, , . ... , uc7 Jn ,u lDO WSBUD u Jiiljiiiiiig du , horrible we never want to see agmn. The ilegfc of both were torn off at the knees, the , bones protruding six or eight inches, bloody ibut bare of fl-iah. and broken at the lower ends where the feet had been wrenched off. The head of one bad apparently been struck iil;by a fragment of shell, which had crushed !e'ear through, opening a horrible chasm the whole length cf the face, and smashing skull and fiatnres into a tloody pulp. The face of the other wai apparently uohurt except by t!.e blaze of powder. Both seemed to have had every bone in thoir bodies broken. Not a ioiut or limb was in its natural place. They looked h if some malinant giant bad wrenched and jammed them out of all shape. Their faces were .-i,,.-.! nnnlt ,.A;r 1,-.. thtir bins thrown up to their chest., their shoulders and arms turned round to their sides, a mass of almost obliterated humanity, which but a few minutes before had been full of hopeful life and courageous patriotism hastening to the field to meet the enemies of its country." The names of the unfortunate men are: Wm. Stacy, Jvhn Gearm, and Ferdinand Kanceg. The boy who was killed was the son of Mr. SimpWins, of Indianapolis. The probable cause of the explosion is supposed to be ignition of the friction prim mer in the caisson, by tfie jolting and conounsion of the rapid gall p down the street, communicating to about HO lbs. powder placed in some sort of wrapping in the caisson.. None of the shells were exploded. ' Tk. . . . the force of the explosion was such a to brexk the window glass in the housas adJoining -breaking queensnsre, and forcing sash out of wiodows nearly a sqimre from the place where the accident occurred. , 3TA little incident occurred with Dan. Bit man, of this city, at L Indianapolis, that deserves mention : Dan., with many others, left here suddenly, on the call of the Gov ernor for every man to come to the rescue ; on his arrival there, and after perambulating the city, making inquiries as to Xow his services could best be appropriated and when he was wanted, he was sworn into the service, received a musket, Ac, aad went in." Becoming hungry, he, with several other friends, went to a restaurant n o''d somathiug to eat. Finding they charged 50 cents per meal, he deter mined to get his money's worth, and, when bis friends got through, he was still progressing. It was hinted to him, that he ought to have enough, but considering him self a good judge of his own capacity, he would'nt take a bint worth a cent. He fiDs M thj rietor he woulJ quit provided he'd pay him 50 cents. This was refused, but finally, as there seemed to be no disposition on the part of Dan. to "let up "the proprietor gave him a quarter to quit, which he accepted having filled his natural haversack by that time.
