The men - wbo paraivad the Republic in February - nv, are endeavoring to pros'rate the Re- "; public . lo-dy. .' That is too recent and too ad to be forgotten. The cry of peace did not preveat batteries- from being erected in Charleston harbor llie efforts of compromine and conciliation did sot prevent those batteries firing on Kort .Sumter ; and while the enemy al borne talks contrained loyalty, . and professes to be actuated by a peculiar , concern for the public good, he is no less . active in his hostile preparations, and when the time at last arrives, the blow will come as malignantly as it came from the traitors in booth Carolina. This is the danger we lave tj dread. To use a fami'iar military .pltase, we are in danger of a flank move' c menu a concentration of the disloyal aentintent in our midst the capture of the great Democratic party organization, and the use . of that organization as an ally of the enemy. ; The battle of peace is impending. .even at toe n 01 wearying, oy repetition, r we nave repealed our warning of the po Jitical trouble to come. We know the meu .wlo are engaged in tbia conspiracy too well - not to dread their machinations. We know ', the power of a great party organization an organization sacred in its traditions, useful in other days, and now to be Ubed for miscLiet and disunion. We Lave Keen tins organization silently pas from the hands of patriots to those who have no feeling of patriotism, iue men wbo nearly ruined the Republic, under the Administration of Mr." Btichanao, are ruling the Democratic party under the Administration of Mr. Lincoln, and we have admonished the people of the danger now before them, and the du'y its presence imposes. ' With the past before us, and many a tern lesson crowding the pages of its history; with the mighty destinies of this na tion demanding every possible sacrifice and elf denial, believing that only as there is harmony in our councils and a unity of purpose in tur conduct we shall obtain victory and peace. Whoever prefers his party to the Union is against the Union, and whoever labors for his party at the expense of the Union feeling is as much an enemy as the chief traitor in Fort Warren. Let it be the Republican, with his peculiar principles, or the Democrat with his, when the effect of agitation is to divido and distract, and build up a sentiment of disaffection towards the Administration, each is equally an enemyfor no true Republican, and certainly no true Uemocrat, can regard anything as being more important than the termination j of tha rebellion and the triumph of our cause. May, 1861, Vallandiogham wrote a letter to committee of Secession sympathizers at Middietowo, in which the following occurs: . a The audacious usurpatiou of President' Lincoln, for which he deserves impeachment, in dating, against the very letter of the Constitution, and without the shadow of la v, to "raise and support armies," and to "provide and maintain a navy" for three or five years, by mere Executive proclamations I will not vote to sustain or ratify nkver. "Millions for defensenot a dollar or a man for civil or aggressive warfare." - The war has had maoy motives for its commencement; it can have Lut one result, whether it last one or fifty years final, - xternal, separation ataCKIOS. That is the doctrine of Jeff. Davis, and all the leaders of the rebellion. They only asked to be "let alone." Vallandiogham was in favor of letting them alone; and fur trier, he was in favor of impeaching tbe President for using tho means necessary to defeid the Union and the Constitution. If this is not treason, what is it? If flooding tbe South with his treasonable letters was not giving aid and comfort to the rebels; then every political prisoner held in Fort Lafayette, ought to be released uoconditiontlly. I II anything more than the extract published above were necessary to show that the object of tbe letter was to aid the rebels, it would suflioe to state the fact that it contained extracts Irom a peace speech made by Judge Douglai in March, 1C61, and was written and circulated after that statesman delivered his celebrated speech at Chicago, in ftvor of a vigSrous prosecution of the war. and approving of the acts of President Lincoln. allnndiughans sought to aid the cause of disunion in Kentucky by misrepresenting the position of Mr. Douglas, and he accomplished . that purpose. To this, thousands of the union men in Kentucky will bear willing testimony. And yet the Representative Irom the Dayton district had the assurance to claim, in Congress, a few days ago, that he never said or wrote a word gainst the Union! , ,Now that Vallandingham bas put himself upon the defensive, let ihts letter, the writing and circulation of which be will tut deny, be brought to the attention of the House.
