It is reported that a gentleman call-
ed a few days' since, with his -better half.! at the rooms of Mr. Boswell, and had a likeness taken of her, which he declared he liked better than the original. If jou want a good picture, call at Bosnrell's. BuKtsa Machi.kbt. We called in at the manufactory of our neighbor Joseph Dick inson, a few days since, where all kinds of hydraulic apparatus is gotten up ia the best order. He has a machine for boring pump logs, wagon hubs, dec , dee., which, for sim plicity, speed, precision and cheapness, cerinly has never been excelled. Pump logs. piping, and sacn like work, is done witn sucn speed that he is enabled to furnish such work for t least one-half bis former price, or the price charged by other persons. He can supply pump-makers with pump logs, piping. &c at a much less price than they can make them themselves. Mr. Dickinson is also prepared to put up all kinds of baths, iron pumps, hydraulic rams, &c. We are sore th.tt those having business with the Clerk of our Courts, will be gratified to know that Simon Clkckner, Esq. formerly of Cambridge City, is Col. Meredith's Deputy Clerk. A more competent and better qualified assistant than he will make in thai office, does not grow in the Key-Stone State or elsewhere; it is emphatically an "appointment fit to be made." We learn, jast as oar paper is goicg to press, that the Judiot Sous of America in this city, purpose having a Literary Eshibition shortly. They always succeed in making a good impression, and it is safe to say that the pablic will be well pleased to have the Sons once more catering to its literary taste and amnsemeal. Oar wcrme-t thanks are tendered to oar young friend, Dr. T. Rose, for the present of a very handsome poundcake, on the happy hymen ial occasion he has recently participated io as one of the principals, as we learn from a brief note which accompanied the cake. May his life be estended far beyond the period usually allotted to man, and like a vast flower garden, plentifully besprinkled with little lea Tojttf The cake was, judging from its excellent flavor, buked hot, and when cold it lust none of the heated taste impart ed to it whilst baking 'twas delightfully seasoned with the best of Cayenne pepperl May oar yonng friend, when he shuffles off his mortal coil, never reach a place as hot as was that cake! ia the prayer of every printer who tasted it. Frank Leslie's New Family Magazine, is on our table from Sam. Elder's Fostoffiee News Depot. It is filled with interesting matter, and is emphatically a Gazette of Fashion the Ladies should have the copy for April: price 25 cts. Our yonn friend Sam. is enabled to supply all who call upon him with reacting matter just suited to their taste. Give him a call. We notice at Strattan's Corner a large and complete stock of Dry Goods, just received from the eastern cities; and we also notice that the style, quality and cheapness of said goods are vouched for by the many customers that daily throng their counters. And we advise those who wish a good article at as low a rate as any in the market to give them a call. They also have a nice assortment of Free Labor Ooods. Young America is Newport. The elec tion of Township Trustee, in Newport, on Monday last, got up considerable excitement. A Mr. Jeffries, and Mr. Baily were the candidates. The former was elected by a majority of five. On Tuesday evening the friends of the successful candidate set on fire a tar barrel by way of glorification. The young friends of Baily took the tar barrel and rolled it down in front of the residence of their candidate, when the friends of Jeffries attacked the Baily boys, in which blows were given. The assailants, the Jeffries boys, were taken up and fined. It is hoped this will be the end. BsaT" We invite attention to the advertisement "Farm for Sale."
