M , went to the house of Meredith Vinson, (Edwards' brother-in-law,) who resides in West Rich- mond, and made an attack on Mr. V. with a large pocket knife, (about a three inch blade) sticking the blade into the left side of Vinson's nose, the point coming out at the point wards was brought before Esq. Lyle; the ev- idence heard, and he was commuted to jail in default of $400 bail, for assault and battery with intent to kill. Edwards also set his brother-in-law's house on fire, burnt some bedding and all the children's clothes, and came near consuming the house. He has not been prosecuted for arson yet. ———<>——— ——>We were aroused on yesterday morning about 3 o'clock, by loud cries evidently proceeding from some one apparently in deep distress. As quickly as we could dress, we hastened to the spot from whence the noise proceeded, and found DICK DENNIS— a well- known character in Richmond, whose high standing has never been questioned—hanging by the left arm on the inside of Mr. C. Yergan's fence. The circumstance of his being there looked rather <suspicious>, and he looked rather <down in the mouth>, while he beseeched us to release him from his painful situation, which we quickly accomplished by knocking off a board with an axe. In attempting to jump the fence, his arm slipped between two boards and his paw being too large, he was unable to withdraw it. He thanked us, brute-fashion, for the favor we had done him, and when we intimated that we might publish the suspicious circumstances under which he had been found he <whined>. thereby intimating that he didn't care, dog as he was, about being placed on an equality with lawbreakers, by having his misdeeds published in a newspaper!
