JtW Knoppf, one of the State's partiu r's in the liquor traffic, was fined on Tuesday last by the Mayor, for selling State stock to a minor. The fine and costs amounted to $12. jT-7 Hugh O'Uryan, whose sign says "live and let live," and who is continually trying how few he can "let live" out of the many to whom ho Hells poison, by depriving them of the means of living-, in order that he and his family may "live," was fined for selling unlicensed State stock by the dram. For thus trying to "live" without paying a lioense for the privilege of destroying life by retail, he was obliged by the Mayor to pay $80, fines, in the several cases against him. SP Another case of perjury, was made out gainnt a man by the namejnf John Case, on Monday last, and in default of S300 bail, Esq. Lyle sent him to jail, deeming him too hard a case to remain in this place. Thus it happened: Ou Saturday last, John Case, who keeps a dry grocery next to Paul Draberl's, feeling the want of "wetting his whistle," went to Fred. Bowink's and, before John left he had stowed away in his mortal casci ten separate and distinct drinks of whisky, for which he paid Fred. 60 cents. The load proved to be entirely too heavy for Johu, so much so that he staggered under it, and he of course attracted the attention of a police oflicer, who assisted the Case and its contents into the calaboose. His wife bailed him out on Sunday. On Monday morning, he appeared before the Mayor, and was examined as to where he bought his liquor, tc. T0iln .wore Dositivelv that he obtained his ten drinks from Fred, and paid him five cents a drink all this was taken down in the form of an affidavit by the prosecuting attorney, and signed by John Case, and upon this a case was predicated against Fred. An Irish friend of Fred.'s immediately informed him of John's doings, and Fred, succeeded in persuading John to go to the Mayor's office and try to undo what he had done; but 'twas too late. Mrs. B.f however, fearing to loose more money from tines and costs, adopted the following expedient: she went to John and told him he was a good hearted fellow that Fred, didn't sell him any liquor, but gave it to him he had only taken his money to keep for him until he got sober, and she then banded John his fifty cents. John put it n a). Honartorl wr.11 aot Ufi with the result of her mission of loving kind ness for a fellow-being's temporal welfare!
