Tha Trustees of our Public Schools, wo understand, are labortnir to devise some means by which tho Public Suhjjl houses may bo ocjujiied, until guch tima as tha pulic funds will j iatify the opening of freo schools. Several plans have been suggested. Oae is to rent the rooms to such persona as see proper to occupy them on private account aaother is to rent tha entire building to some responsible person or persons who will employ a sufficient number of teachers, classify the scholars, and thus carry on a graded school iu the inanuer of our former free schools. The Trustees, however, retaining the right to fix the price to ba charged for tuition and a general supervision of the rules to ba adopted for the government of tho respective rooms and classes. It appears to us that this would bo a very judicious plan, provided tho whole arrangement can be harmoniously carried out. We suggest that it would bo good policy to call a school meeting of our citizens aud submit this with other plana to their consideration. House lionni.Nii. On Tuesday morning last, about 2 o'clock, some scoundrels entered the house of Mr. Uurme, leather dealer, ou Peail street, and after administering, it is supposed, chloroform to the family proceeded to carry offall the wearing apparel aud everjthing else they could carry. Th t y rifled the bureuu drawers and trucks, and tuking everything ttcy found. In walking ubout one of them disturbed Mrs Curme so that oho awoke. She screamed aud the scoundrels fled, droppiuz a bundle which they bail tied ui. in which was found two of her dresses. It was with great difficulty she could awakeu her husband, he no doubt being under the iulluenee of some narcotic. As soon as ho could pacify his alarmed w ife, he started in pursuit of the rob bers, but could not find any thing of them. There is evidently a gang of men engaged iu this business in our city, aud it would be well if the City Council would iucrease the police force. Two or three men cannot be at all poiuts of the town at once.
