REPUBLICAN MASS CONVENTION.

Great Meeting in the Third District. Hamilon Ahead. A Proud Day for Lew. Campbell. In accordance with previous notice a Mass Convention of the Republicans of the Third Congressional District, was held at Hamilton yesterday. The day opened with indications of rain, but it cleared off early, and the weather proved most favorable. To say that the Convention wasalargeone would convey only a faint idea of the Mass of men and women that were crowded into the town of Hamilton, and to undertake to give a reliable estimate of the number present would be almost a useless undertaking. It was generally admitted to be the largest gathering in this part of the State since the opening of th campaign, being ahead of the great Fremont demonstration at Dayton, which was one third larger than the Buchanan Convention at the same place. Various estimates were made of the number present, varying from 25,000 to 45,000. Our own impression is that there were 40,000 people on the ground. The mass were addressed from five stands at the same time, and the number at each stand numbered 1,500 to 4,000, and more than halfthe people were ou tside of the Court House yard, w here all the stands were erected but one. The excursion train from this city reached Hamilton about 10, o'clock, and the delegations were met at the depot by a large number of the citizens of Hamilton, with banuers, music, fec. The Hamilton Glee Club, composeu ot ladies and gentlemen, sang several . , j i , i .1.. aongs al the depot, and they were responded to by Menter s Han J. About this time the country delegations commenced pouring in. The cars from Richmond and E-iton brought down 4,200 people. Large trains alsoarrived from Day ton. About 2.0OO went up from this city in the A. M. and P. M. excursion trains. Soon after 10 o'clock, the proce.ion was formed and commenced moTin This was composed entirely of men and ladies on horseback and in carriages and wagons, with banners, flags, fec. From the length of time it took the procession to pass a given point, and the speed with which it moved, we estimate that it was five miles Ions'. We can only notice a few of the leading features in the procession. On one Wagon was the Cincinnati Platform supporting the lifeless body of James Buchanan. The latter was attended by a white slave. A car beautifully decorated contained the Hamilton Glee Club. There were several cars containing each thirty-two young ladies, misses and boys, with appropria'e banners and inscriptions. Seventy couple of young ladies and gentlemen rode ou horseback, and iiiiade a fine display. Thene were f.jllowml by two hundred young men on horseback all dressed in uniform. The delegation frora various township in ine moites mat. were inscriDeu on me cars ana banners "Free Speech, Ftee Press and Free Territories. "The People of the West are for Freedom." On a car containing thirtytwo beautiful ladies was inscribed. "We go for Uni 'ii;" others were "Freedom National Slarery Sectional," "Daughters of Freedom;" "Kansas shall be Free," "Freedom for Kansas and Free Homes for Freemen. In another car, containing about forty handsome younjr ladies, a banner was carried with thia p . t, , , ,, inscription, "Fremonters or no Husbands." In tne afternoon speeches were made by Govemer Chase, W. H.Gibson. Hon. L. D j Campbell. Hon. Joseph N. Root, Felix .Marsh, and others, in English; and Messrs.. Foash and Sohn in German. Four different i stands wore occupied at the same time by the r - ngiwn speakers anu one ny tne uerinans. itneDestot crooa order prevailed, t . . i.r.t. .
