Agricultural Selections. A.- Hoi-war with (be Heave. I tried all sorts of heave powders on my r,.uleiit, with no effect whatever. It is said
that in a limestone countrv this disease is ' unknown, and lime water was prescribed j m ith no apparent advantage. Some one told . me. to give the horse ginger, and strange to ; tell, 1 found that a table spoonful of ginger given to the "General" with his oats, would cure him for the day, in half an hour after he ' J . , .. , . , had eaten it: but on giving it daily, the effect suou ceased. It is a jockey's remedy, and ' will last longenough to swap open. Finally, , I was advised to cut my horse' fodder and give it always wet. I pursued that course J tarelully, keeping the 'General' tied with soj elicit a halter that he could not eat hi. bedding, giving him chopped hay and meal three j times a day, and never more than a bucket i of water at a time. ' Ue improved rapidly. I have kept him j ri c yfar, making him a factotum carriage hoie, saddle horse, plow and cart horse j and lie bids lair to remain useful for live j earn to come. With my horse, it in not so. When the "General" was at the worst, r.-ipid driving, when just from the stable, j would increase his difficulty, but a mile or! tivii of moderate exercise would dissipate tin' -yiiiptoms entirely. We have, occasion- , nlly.'what are called wind-hroken horses, j tt hich arc nearly worthless for want of wind. The "General's" i-sc i, 1 biij pohe, a fair example i the hi ares. 1 have no doubt that regular fccdii g with chopped and wet fodder, and exclusion of dust from hay fed to other animals in tbe hauie fctaljle, would render many horses now ah-emed almost worthless, and which mani feirtly endure great suffering, equally valun lib' tor inoht purposes, with thone that are -.' u l i d .
