Nursed tn the rude lap of pio-; neer life, they expect to meet with privations, ami they are prepared for them. And what are the hardship, to be met with here, when compared to those endured by the hardy pioneers who settled in Ohio and Indi-' ana. and felled the heavy forest before they j rould raie their bread; while here the laud already cleat ed, and the husbandman has only to break it up and cast in the seed, and i kind nature tills hit. lup with a bountiful har-1 vet. But the 'softer wx" are sdly prone to imbitie new ideas. Vcnians Eiglits" is a favorite theme now-a-day, among them, and it cannot he denied that they are growing smartly wiser than their mothers were. Ainon other things they have discovered that hats and pants hec"me them quite a much as they do the towculiue half of creation, and they are jutst 'now coming to the conclusion that the milking bhould be doue ly the men. Now to be honest, we confess to some misgivings on the subject, and yet it eem a little strange that just as they legin to doff their timehallowed habiliments, and adopt others so well adapted to mud and rain, as pants and hat, they should find out that milking is a business that belongs properly and exclusively to the men. Nevertheless, we admire their sagacity. Willing to be thought fair and honorable, especially toward the fair sex, we will make a proposition. If the ladies (we mean, of course, the female part of mankind) will allow us the undisputed and peaceable possesion of our pants, and other articles of masculine apparel, we will henceforth give our undivided inrluance in favor of the men doing the milking. The fact is, we do not like to yield too many points at once. We dont object to short skirts, such as will be fairly out of the way of wet and dirt, but more than this we shall consider as an infringement of rights which we claim as excluauvely our tva. What aay you
