Warae Coaat Fair. We publish in this paper a list of th premiums awarded at the late Couay Fair. The almost unprecedented bad state of the weather operated roost disastrously upon the Exhibition. Th favoiaoTe indications of the Weather ,n Time.-law mnrninrf. thfl firfit Aav rf tra i . ui .i r air, induced n to speak favorably of the . . . .. . prospect oi success; oat we regret to say, mat i in many particulars, our anticipations werej not realized. On Tuesday the entries of stock, ! both horses and cattle, w as large, if not j larger than at any previous Fair; but the rain J on Tuesday evening and Wednesday, was a se vere draw back to the affair. The grounds were well enclosed, and the conveniences in oil f:T respects well arranged. Too much credit cannot given to Messrs. Commons and Mat well, mem bet a of the Executive Commit-! tee, fur the attention they gave to preparations. ! They were assisted by a few persons to whom due credit is given, but almost the entire labor; devolved upon them. They are entitled to the thanks of the Socity for their attention and; labors, i The great feature of the exhibition was j the HurHes, Ca'.tle, Sheep aad Swine. There j were some one hundred and twenty entries j of Horses, and the competition was close a-j tnong many of them. It ia but seldom so j many tine animals are seen, as were exhibited on Thursday last. tVe rik but little in saying that the Cattle l,,w was as good as ever made in this county, and never excelled ia any county in the west. We have not room to particularize, but our people have great cause to congratulate ilit-hiiwlves upon the benefits the enterprise of a few of our farmers Lava- brought them. Our .icook men are now enabled to furnish ax goiKl animals as can be found in the country. The exhibition of .Sheep was very large. Jfr. Meredith had quite a number, received on the second day of the Fair, directly from Europe. A large number of Hogs were on the grounds, and generally of the most pcpular breeds. In the Mechanical department, the exhibition was not as large as desired, but the bad weather doubtless deprived many mechanics' from attending. Under the Class of Farm-! ing Tools, Messrs. Bead Ac Sinex. and Hor-! nc v fc Co., made a very fine display. Both ! establishments are doing very extansive j business, and their competition is for the superiority of the articles manufactured by them, rather than to secure sales neither House being able to supply all demands for their work. We should like to notice in detail many of the articles exhibited, but we have not the room to do so; and our readers who were not present at the Fair, must look at the premium list, for information as to what was there exhibited. Ot-tober Election. Are our friends of the Republican party fully aware of the importance of the election whiv h is to take place on the second Tuesday of Oct. next? True, tho offices to be filled are unimportant in a political point of view, yet it is n cossary they be filled by good and true men, utid that too by majorities that will sustain the popular majority of the great Republican par ty in this county-. Our opponents have but i one candidate iu the field, that wa liaveheard of. and that is A. F. Scott, for the office off Clerk. They will doubtless have others on the track, either publicly or privately, but with j no hope of success. No nominations will be I made, and jot the party linss will ba drawn j as closely as ever they were drawn in a heat-' ed contest. Strong efforts will be made to retain Jud-e Smith as a candidate for Judce. I aud although he and his friends will disclaim j" w: . i: i...- n i: .v. uri L' n uniiv L n uiuaui. vin v uiu mitrr ill 1 1 o i j ' j Circuit will vote for him. The organ of the party has already commenced his low abuse ' of Judge Elliott. It will not prevent any! man's voting for him however; but may serve S upon the contrary, to arouse a disposition in the Republicans to defend their candidate for1 Judge from the false and infamous slanders! that have been heaped upon him. We simply invite the attention of our political friends to the necessity of a full vote at tho next election. A good ticket for Judce ! and county officers has been nominated, and j we hope every Republican will vote th full ticket. "In the city of Richmond the polls wers taken possession of on the outside and blocked up by a set of Know-Nothing bullies and blackguards, aud those who could not give the signs had to run the guantlet in order to gut to vote. A more infamous falsehood was never penned by any of the numerous writers of editorials for the Jeffersonian, than the above; and we call upon Mr. Elder to substantiate these wholesale charges by the evidence of on respectable "old-line" democrat in this community, or one naturalized citizen, who, he asserts was "insulted" at the election allud ed to. We dare him to the proof. If there is any conduct especially entitled to be called "devilish," it is just such slanders on his fellow-citisens as the above extract contains, and all the vile epithets he has "used up against the "Know-Nothings" himself. and permitted others to indulge in towards them in his columns, are but his own jas deerts tor base lying and slandering, and should be heaped like coals of. fire upon his head. Hard to Satisft. About the time the nominating election came off in tin county, the Jeff. was very indignant at the probability that J. B. Julian, Esq., would be the candidate. They have laid upon our table ths Know Nothing," an interesting story illustrative of the principles and objects of that far-famed Order. We hope to see these nea sustained in their efforts to establish a Book store that will supply the wants of all. Such an establishment has long been desired ia oar city, and the Messrs. Bitnil Bright well, who Las ben sagafd in lfa mercantile buainettfi ia this plscs for near thirty years, has disposed of his stock to James M. Hays, who will continue business in the old stand. Mr. Brightwell will continue in the City Mills; and it may notbs amiss to say that the flour to which was awarded the premium at our late County Fair, was made at his mill and speaking of his mill and flour, we are reminded that this same flour, which took the premium was bohed by the steel wire boh of Messrs.
