There is a morbid taste for such news a sort ,! love for gossip, scandal and depravity.,, It S a our friend Major Doughty would say, "all wrong." The paper that contains a deriVd account of a "shocking murder" is read with much interest A paper that contains a recital of some act of intrigue, induced by lore, io w ever great a moral obliquity may be involved in it, it is read with the greatest anxiety, if a neighbor is overtaken in a fault, the pubic ta-te demands that a history of it be given n the newspaper. We have recently received i letter from a subscriber inquiring why we have bn so derelict in duty as not to give the fi-ti" in a disgraceful affair which is said to have recently taken place in this city, a report f which has been spread without the aid of ilio press. In the first place, we do notknow !,o "fact" refered to, and if we did. we do not believe we would subserve the public ;ood by giving them to the public. We condemn it, .ind although our columns are not free from such things, we hope not to make our paper a channel through which every vile act may be brought before the public mind. The press has already contributed too much towards creating and fostering this morbid taite. It has been to make money. It induces large and extended subscriptions, and L'ives notoriety tea sheet. It were better if f ho press could be induced to hide rather than brinr these things to light. We commenced this article however, as rather an apology for the dearth of news which has for some time pervaded our columns, and as well as those of our cotemporanies of the pre. The election will be on in a few months; and it is to be hoped something good re long will occur which will be news indeed, until then, we beg the reader to "bide the time." W'atsk Couhtt Aobici-ltvbal Fair. In neither place will be found the list ef premiums to he awarded at the fifth annual Fair of the Wayne County Agricultural Society. The list is a libe1 one, and inch as should command the atten- ; ion of our agriculturists. And it ihoald be borne in mind that the Executive Committee is clothed vith full powers to award premiums upon any and 11 ui'th led that may be considered meretorious, if io t r numerated ia the list. There is one item not mm.., -rated in said list, to which we weald like to ill the attention of that committee, and our agi'ultiirul friends of the county, and that ia "mrhards." A premiam ef at least a silver cap, hould be offered for the best fruit orchard, taking ito consideration the quality and quantity of fruit the manner of cultivation the profits arising herefrom, to be accurately and definitely stated, vJ. The fruit trade, as assisted by our Railroads, as become of increased importance, and is new oi tliy the attention of the farmer. We have a liniHte and soil particularly adapted to apples, caches, See., and almost every variety of northern 'ruit, and we have some fine varieties of most exIL iit tipples; but from the low price at which m fruit has been sold for the last ten or fifteen curs, but little attention has been paid to the improvement and cultivation of fruit. A liberal prenium would excite a spirit of competition, or at 'cist attract the attention of farmers to the subVet. The Fair is to be held at CentervUle, and it is dcii?ncd to make it the most extensive and the 'est ever held in the county, if not in the State. The time fixed is earlier than we have heretofore ield our exhibitions, and at a time of comparative leisure, except for fall seeding. We uk the farmers and mechanics to give the natter their early and special attention. Plant your crops and cultivate them with a view to exhibition and for a premium. Let each mechanic put up some of their best specimens of work, and take it to the Fair. We also ask the women of Wayne county to make p such articles as they aifiy see proper for exhibition. Neighboring .-entities and Societies are aspiring to rival us. We rommend their spirit, and ask our people to look to their laurels. Xkw Dailt Papsb. The Cambridge City Item is now issued daily, on a sheet about one-fourth the size of the Palladium, at ten cents per week. It is a sprightly little paper, and its editors say that its success, thus far, has astonished themselves. Should it be continued two or three months without lo, others will no doubt be astonished besides themselves. The experiment of publishing a daily paper has been frequently tried in cities of five limes the population aad easiness of Cambridge, and in prosperous time, too, and the result has generally been a suspension, with loss, in the course of a few months. However, we wish our enterprising friends of the canal city, better success than similar enterprises have received in other places. "Mr Voica a Snu ran Was." The President and the Southern portion of his Cabinet seem still determined to provoke a war with Spain, hoping in the end to acquire Cuba, and for this purpose have been concentrating troops under the pre tence that they are to be employed in restoring iuiet among the savagas oa our Western frontier. Col Kenton has beea making diUgant inquiry from rerrons well acquainted with the condition of tilings in the West, and finds that the Indiana are all at peace with the whites, except those adjoiaing New Mexico, where there has beea a war for ire years. Col B. thiaks that these troops are te bo held in readlaeas for the war with which President Pierce hopes to signalise his feeble adminut ration. Fbakkliw CoovtT Fat. The next' annual Fair of the Franklin County Agricultural Society will be held on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, the 3d, 4th and 5th day ef October.

Defending the Dignity of ike Court. The Fort Wayne Times gives an account of a recent Herculean, effort made by Judge Borden, to defend the dignity of hit Court! He presides in the Court of Common Pleas for Allen county, and has distinguished himself for the summary manner in which he punishes those who, by word or act, offend his honor.

The Times savs, a few days since an aiterca- . tion occurred in Borden's Court, between a Dutchman and a lawyer, which came near ending in a fight, at which Borden seemed ' . . . . 6 J . s ready tiesJea. in uw altercation, we oeputy Clerk, a mere boy in sixe, got mixed up, ' at which his Honor riled up like a bear in a dog fight.
