At the Annual meeting of the Hoosier Fire Company, held Ap. 4th, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year, to wit: Ezra Smith, President; John D. Wiggins, Vice President; James Smith, Secretary, Tho's Newby, Treasurer; Darid P. Grave, 1st Director; Bennet Banner, 2d Director; Stacy II. Wilkins, Messenger. A small building adjeining the residence of Joseph Ilolman, residing two miles south of this city, was burned on Mondy last. It caught from ashes in a barrel. Sudden Death. On Thursday night of last week a woman, by the name of Chapman, with two children came to the Cassel House ia this city. She was from Ohio, and was going tO her husband, ia Hamilton COUnty in ; tliis State. She waa destitute of money, and i . . . 1 Complained Slightly Of ill health. She hOWever, Was able to partake Of food at the regular . 0 . j meals, until Saturday morning, when Mr. j Cassel Called Upon One Of the Township TruS- ' tees, and requested that something should be done for her relief. Ly nde proposed to send for a physician if she deemed it necessary, out sne declined naving one. ne then proposed sending her to the Asylum if 1 she thought she could stand to ride that far. ! She willingly consented, and seemerl ; j to go, Mr. Cassel procured a very comfor-1 table carriage, placed a bed in it, in case she should not be able to sit up. She laid down. ' and as nothing was said until they arrived at 7 the Aylum, no chtnge in her condition was discovered. When the keeper of the Asylum ... , , , Z , came out to assist into trie House, ne louna that she was dead! A coroner's inquest was held over the remains, and the facts above were elicited. Several physicians were pres ent and gave it as their opinion that she had ' been afflicted with some chronic disease which made her liable to die at almost any moment, ' and that un propitious moment had come when i r r I sne was among strangers.
