The report of the Secretary of the Board of Flealth will be foi.nd in another eolamn, by which it will be seen that there arc still several causes of this malignant disease in this city. It, howerer, excites bat little alarm, so great ia the confidence in the efficacy of vacciutjation as a preventive, and it has very generally been resorted to ! by oar citizens. Fostpo-VMbxt Tkxchkrs.' Associatiox. The ! meeting of the Teachers' Association advertised to have been held on Saturday next in this city, has been postponed until further notice. COAL. Go to Dennia' if you want a good article of Western CoaL The light of a pur cloudless day in winter is the time to have daguerreotypes taken. During the past few days, the room of our friend Watsom has been crowded, and he has taken some unusually fine pictures. However, he makes a good picture under almost any light, and we advise those who want a perfect likeness of themselves, to call at his rooms. He takes them of all sizes, and always insures satisfaction. jCS"- We have tried the oysters at M. C. Lewis' saloon, and "speak like a book" when we say that he gets them np just right. If yon do not believe this go and see, and feel, and taste for yourselves. 2-V The workmen upon the new school house are progressing finely, notwithstanding the decision of the "Old Liners," who for the time being, occupy the Supreme Bench of this State. Mr. Smith, the contractor, is an energetic and enterprising man, and will put this contract through. It will be ready for the plastercrs in about a month. We believe there is quite j a disposition upon the part of tax payers to pay up, j for the purpose of securing an early complt tion of this noble building. This proves that their desire to have a school house worthy our beautiful city, is not created or controlled by the force of law, but a determination to do their duty to the rising generation. It is a generous nnd noble impulse. VAr.EVTi.vES Our young friends, "and the rest of mankind," are reminded that a great variety of handsome, comic and unique Valentines, are to be had at Mr. Elder's book store. We invite attention to the card of our friend Sam Herron, Esq , of Connersville. If any of our friends have any business to transact at Connersville by Bending it to Mr. Heron they will have it promptly attended to. rmr.AnELriirA Art Union We are the lucuy icipients of a splendid Painting, from the late drawing of the Philadelphia Art Union. Lovers of fine painting are requested to call and nee it. The TlrooUville America gives the following account of the way a runaway match was terminated in that region recently: An amuing runaway match took place on Big Cedar, it few days ago, near E. B. Jenkins'. The intended lrisband, failing to get the consent of the mother, made nrntngvrticiits to carry off his betrothed and have the knot tied elsewhere. The old lady discovered the retreating pair in time to seize a hoop-pole, and, by a near cut, aimed to "head" them. But the prudent young man, foreseeing the evil of encountering the raffing woman, had the good sense to "tack about" and make good his escape in another direction, to the infinite amusement of the consenting father, brothers, and neighbors. The plaintiff was a coffee roaster, and bad contracted with the defendant for 250 bags of peas, which, it appeared, were to be ground up with coffee.
