Every thing whs gotten up in good taste and arranged in most beautiful order For variety, richness, and artistic skill, It has never been excelled in this place. The Fair room Was handsomely decorated with evergreens, and the tables loaded with articles for sale. The room was crowded with visitors who appreciated the object and purchased liberally, though the remark was common that the articles were sold too low.— About $l5O were realized from the supper and Fats ’ CITV ELECTION. The following is the result of the election on Monday last for city officers. It will he seen that'the majority in favor of the present wholesome law for the suppression of the liquor traffic in our city, is on the increase, as well as the number of voters. Our City executive officers hare received fresh instructions from the people, as well as approval for their past efforts in suppressing the sale of ajl “drinks, mixtures or preparations that intoxicates,’’ and we hope they will now •go a-head’ and use their best exertions to dry up alt the streams and rivulets of this miserable liquor traffic within the city's limits, whether they flow from the mammoth brewery or from the splendid “family groceries,’’ and the lesser and more secret "sink-holes.” We are confident that our officers will do their dutv, and, that the people will back them, we have no doubt; notwithstanding yeast may be “nix,” und “sad bread” may be the consequence to some; but it is better to eat the unlevened article all our days, than to have sad hearts and countenances, in consequence of a near and dear relative or friend being drawn into these sink-holes and manufactured into a drunkard.— But there is no necessity of using “sad bread;” for, thanks to the ingenuity of our temperance women, bread, light as snow flakes, is now made by them, without the aid of the nasty, dirty scum that rises to the top of the brewer’s vat.
