A Bcmarkable Case.
A most remarkable and important trial called the Ilinciunan case," has just been closed before the Supreme Court of Pa., at Philadelphia. The chief points of the! case are thus stated. The complainant, Morgan Hinchman, a member of the Society of Friends, brings suit for damages against fourteen individuals, all Friends, (or a conspiracy asainst him. to obtain his nroneitv. hi which thev were so far successful as to get him confined in the I - rankfort L.unat;c Asylum, for nearly two years. as a crazy man. At length bring' permitted to walk in thi yard, he cfF-Ctcvl his escape, and found that ins property . consisting of a well stocked farm in Mont- t gomery county, had been sold. One of ' children had died while he was in the Asylum, and his wife and two other chil tl frotn llinK Thc Pa. Leig rie ' tmrnt in a lutiatic asylum. Thij ver l'Ct. ! after reading all l!ie testimony carefully, nnnatrt. tf iu tr lio n irlf nni" V liaVf ' seldom read a trial in which the defence' had a more slender thread of evidence to support their case. Their attorneys ap-; 1 feel nents, j though in one case a most labored and ingenious one, scarcely amounted to a de- ; fence at all. The facts were too glaring, i that the defendants had illegally seized a j citizen while in tho transaction of his orj dinary business, and immured him fr ( six months in a private mad-house, far more horrible than a jail, and all from one ! of the meanest motives harbored in the j human breast, avarice. Let what construction be put upon the case that may be, this was the real motive that promptetl the conspirators, who saw in every losinrr sneculation of Hinchman, a decided proof of lunacy, and who were ready to release him from his horrible confinement, insane as they pretended to believe him, the moment that he gave them thc possession of his property, they believed him to I be sane enough to make such a disposi- ! tion of it. but not sane enough to dispose of it in a way that he bulieved most advantageous to himself. Avarice being j the prompting spirit ot the uctenuaws, ; j the verdict will touch them sorely. I?e-i j sides punching the guilty, the trial will ! i have the additional good effect of calling i ! the attention of the public and the LegiMI lature to the necessity of throwing better j ippnritifs around nersonal liberty, anil adopting such restrictions and protections as will prevent designing aud wicked per sons, from wnatever motive, using wnat was designed to be a benevolent institution, as a prison f ir the subduing of intractable tempers, the "ratification of malignant motives, or the means of reaching unwortny and unlawful ends.
