IN the whole catalogue of remedies for Pulmonary Affections there is not one so universally known and whose virtues have been so thoroughly tested as PAR, every one k nows that tar-water and tar purgations are among the most common remedies for colds, coughs, vVc. and to confirm this opinion so prevalent amongst unscientific peopb we have the authority of the most ciiuuent professors of medicine. The celebrated Dr. Buchan. of England, Ins employed it successfully for years. I)r. Crichton, an eminent Phvsieiau of Petersburgh, highly recommends a treatment in w hich Tar is principally employed, but it is iiiim-cessury to dwelt on this subject, or in fact to expatiate at all on the merits of this medicine. It maybe remarked, however, that this preparation is the result of years of patient and labored experiment iu an extensive practice, and furthermore, that iu it are embodied the remedies employed by the celebrated Dr. Cooper, w ho, during twelve years of extensive practice in which he treated a great number of cases of Consumption, did not lose one single patient, as may be seen on r ference to a statement to th it i fleet published by him a short time itgo. It being so generally understood an 1 admitted that as a cure for Consumption, Tar is without an equal in the list of known substances, we will briefly call attention to tiie f::ct that Liverw ort, the other chief ingredient in this preparation, is known to be equally efficacious in relieving the primary and milder stages of pulmonary disease, and iu conclusion it may lie added that the utmost skill and care have been exercised iu preparing this medicine to make it as conce ntrated as possible, by retaining only the medicinal properties of the several ingredients and the proportions have been adjusted and the composition effected with a strict n ference to their chemical qualities. CERTIFICATES. f From Justice Finch, Esq., John St., between Fourth and Fifth streets, Cincinnati, O. This was a very serious ca.-e id' spitting of blood which was cured by this medicine in an incredulity short time, and which there is no doubt would have terminated in a fatal case of Consumption. This is to certify that, having been afilieted with a most distressing Cough attended with unu.ii pain, particularly at night, w hen it was eo extremely troublesome as to break my rest continually, and aiTectuig my lungs to such a degree ii. at 1 ai constantly spitting bloo.l; and, having daced myself in a physician's care for a considcral le length of time without obtaining any relief, an ! seeing no prospect of being ured, but on the contrary the symptoms continuing to i nc reuse, I was induced to try a portion of Dr. Rogers" remedy, and I am happy to state that its effects-exceeded by far my most sanguine expectations, inasmuch as it removed the pain iiuiiivdiutt ly, and abated the cough, and in a very short time cured it entirely and stopped the spitting of blood ami ultimately healed my lungs soundly, in line, restored me to perfect health. I will only add that 1 consider it without exception the best preparation for the disease it is intended for, now before the public, and I would strongly recommend all persons suffering under affections of the lungs to try this medicine without delay. Aug. 11, 1;-13. i Mrs. Wolsey's account of one of the most extraordinary caes yet hearU of.) , This is to make know n that it is to Dr. Rogers" remedy for diseasi of the Luugs. I do verily b liey.; my daughter Murv Jane owes her life. She is now 22 years of age and enjovs most excelb-ut health, this, when I recall the suffering she has endured, when I remember the wasted form, the feeble limbs, the dreadful racking cough and the alarming spitting of blood, ail im-w-ating Una approach of Consumption that fell destroyer in its worst form, w hen I think of this and contemplate my dear c hild now, 1 can scarcely refrain from believing that something more than mortal aid has interposed to arrest her progress to an : untimely grave. In her early girlhood she evinced an alarming predisposition to weakness or disease of the Lungs, exhibited by difficult and painful breathing, with sometimes a severe pain iu the breast and a very troublesome cough, these symptoms continued to increase at intervals until her K'th year, notwithstanding the best medcal aid was engaged that could be had, at which time, having given up ail hope of saving my poor girl, I was persuaded to use various patent nieoieiue-s at different times but all without affording her the slightest permanent relief, nntil I tried the above named remedy, which I was J induced to feel some confidence in from a slight personal i acquaintance with its talented discoverer. 1 very soon' however became convinced that my confidence was not misplaced, for site had scarcely commenced ustnz the second bottle, before a decided change for the better was perceivable; before two months from the time she commenced using it, she was able to leave her bed, aDd continued steacily to improve until at the end of about six months she was entirely restored. To expr the gratitude I feci for this great blessing is beyond the power of wonisand I make this statement in the hope that it may bv inducing the same confidence ia others be the means i
of bringing into more general use this truly invaluable medicine. MARY WOOLSEY, 103, Bleekerst., New York. A. L- SCOVILLE, Sooth-East corner of Fifth and Race streets, Cincinnati, sole Agent for tiie WestrrSoid also at the BOOK STORE, I Jnnell,lS45. 41y Richmond, Ia.
