He hoped the bill would bo pas-ied over informally, in order that consultation might bo had. Mr. Bowles hoped the question would be now mot. He considered a loan Irom tha Hank out of the ;pieiiun. Ho then dofonded his original proposition for an iss io of treasury notes in a speech of considerable ieotii. Mr. Parker hoped the bill wo.ilJ bo informally laid ovr? .... ... ..." t'J ,tW ItlMISU. The bill to raise a revenue for State purposes and to redeem treasury notes was read a third time; when Mr. Chapman moved to recommit wiih instruction to strike out the section exempting 123 worth of property from execution. Mr. Gorman moved tho previous question ; which was ordered, and, on the question shall tho bill pass? it wa decided in the affirmative, ayes 4.1, noes 45. milt, 1'aise.J To amend an act to enable the Bank to maintain specio payments, &c , so as to compel the Hank to reduce note to writing, when appraisement law arc waived; to suspend (he further issue of five dollar treasury note in lieu of fifties; to toduce tho salary of clerk of State prison.

Tho joint resolution on Iho subject of the reduction of

the pay of members of Congress to six dollats per day, ivc, was read a third time and panned. lieieal of lielief Iiw. The bill to amend the execution law, 8 a to make property soil for two-third of its npraiied value and to allow two executions in a year was read a second time. Mr, Robert of Putnam moved that the 'jill be indefinitely postponed. w (:..... r j c .u. - , particularly that one which placed the debt of the surplu revenue fund on an equal f on ting with other debt. Mr. Sailor !avor6t tho bill, believing in a gradual repeal of the relief law. Mr. Hurlburt favorer", tho bill, particularly tiie feature that allowed more than one execution. Mr. Roberts of Putnam said, that when tha people instructed him to repeal thia law, he would vote for the repeal; but there had been no petitions sent in here at the present session, asking a repeal, no such petitions had been presented. At the lasl session, and at the session previous, tho people came into this Hall, through iheir petitions, in thunder ;ones, asking for relief. Mr. McDonald said, there was little difFerrnae i this bill from the present law. He said there was a fee'iini in the country favoring the repeal of tho relief laws of the j country. Air. Tevi said, it was understood in hi county, djring

the canvass, that there should bo no alteration in the relief

Jaws, during the present session. Mr. Chapman saiJ, he was satisfied this bill could not pass, and he thought it unnecessary to oppose it in debate. Hi constituents were opponents to any repeal. Mr. Handy said, he wished gentlemen would con-iider the source from whence our rc'ief laws originate 1. They originated from th bard fisted jeoinanrv of the country, lie also asked where this bill came from ? It came from the gentlemen of the bar, and ha admonished gentlemen

that the peoplo demanded no such repeal. And he would further say, that gentlemen who voted for this bill would in most instances, vote lo vacate their seats in this Legilature so far as they were concerned. Mr. Pa.ker favored ihe biil and contended that hi constituents were in favor of the measure. Air. Read favored the bill, believing thai property should sell for two third of its value. Mr. Chapman referred to the fact, that un ler the present law the plaintiff had ihe privilege of selecting property, when sold at its full value. Mr. Gorman hoped that the gentleman from Putnam would withdraw his motion, so thai an indefinite postponement might not prevent the pasa5e of the clause of toe biil on the subject of the collection of ;he surp'.us revenue Mr, Robert of Putnam ihought there was sjiiieie.il protection on this subject. Air. Norrell said, under the decision of the S ipreme Court of the United Slates, we could not avail of tha provision contemplated by the bill, lie therefore moved the previous question: which was ordered by tiie House believing that the said question wa the indefinite postponement of the bill; but the main question bein" on tha en-'
