The bill regulating the laking of testimony in eases of contested elections was also passed nnd returned to the House, with an amendment, which prevent tho retro-action of tho bill on those stale who iniy have elected previous to the passage of tho net. Tho remainder of tho day was spent in e.xecu tivc session. Aug. :$o, IS 12. In tho IIju8o of Representatives, n motion of I Mr. Culhoun, a resolution was adopted, requiring the Secretary of War to report at tho next sesIton of Congress a statement of the number of privnto manufactories of arms in tho United Stales, together with all other information respecting tho amount paid per annum for arms', &.. Tho bill providing for the reorui. ition ol the Navy department was considered in committee of the whole, nnd reported to tho House, with sundry amendments wore concurred in, and the hill passed.
