Father, Mother, Sifter, Brother, AH who hold each other rlear, Each chair is filled, we're all at home, To-ni;ht let no cold stranger come ; It is not ofun thus around Our old familiar hearth we're found ; Bless then the meeting and the spot. A Horse Story. ' . Our jocose Boston auctioneer was called upon one day by a country horse-dealer from Vermont, who wished lo disposo of a horse. He was one of those distinciivecharacters peculiar to thai seclion, with a countenance strangely indicative of both simplicity and shrewdness. "I say," said he, "I want to seo the auctioneer, that auctions idThorses here on Saturday." "1 am tho individual," said the auctioneer, what can 1 do for you?" "Well, I've got a harse I want to soli, provided I can get enough for him: don't wantnolhing more than his valu, neither. "kxactlv ? and you won't take a great deal more than is offered for him, will you?" "Well, no, I'm notdisposiiioned to bo hard, any bow. I rather calculate not!" Saturday came, and one dollar and a half w as bid for the animal brought up by the horse dealer. "Go on, gentlemen. I have only one dol.ar and n half bid for the horse;how much more do 1 hear. One dollar and a h tlf is only offered for the ani mal before you. One dollar and a halfgoing goine." "Sell him air, he's a dying!" whimpered the Vermont horse dealer into the ear of tho knight of the hammer. "Gone!" shouted tho auctioneer, and down went the old horse at a dollar and a half. After tho sale the horso dealer was the first one up at the desk for a settlement. "Well, I reckon it won't take long to settle up this little trade of mine about the horse," said he. "Not long," said the clerk, "there's your account of sale; you have to pav U9 j 1st fifty cents more than the horse brought." "Po litical in struction !" exclaimed tho Vermonter, with a humorous affectation of astonishment. Then, with a satisfied manner, ho continued: "Its cheap enough! there's a fifty cent piece. Cheap enough! I couldn't a gin him away at-no price, and it would have cost two dollars and a half to bury him. Jest a half a dollar saved.--Good morning,Mr. Auctioneer. Cheap enough!" PtVayunf.

Tho candles are very hard, not oily at all, nnd endure a much higher temperature than spermaceti. They burn as beautiful as candles cf pcrm or wax. They have been manufactured in France for years: but the high duty on candles has prevented them from being imported. They are now manufactured in this city. .Y. Y. Journal of Commerce.
