Tho editor of the Cincinnati Chronicle haa been examining the tix returns of tho census, taken ut intervals of ten years each eince the adoption of tho constitution. Tho investigation show some curious fucts: 1. The population of tho United States increa es exactly lit per cent, each ten years, and doubles every twenty-four years. Tho law is so uniform and permanent, that when applied to thu population of 171)0, nnd brought down the present time, it produces nearly the very result ns shown by the census of 18-10. And thus wo may tell with great accuracy what will be tho census of 1850. It will bo nearly twenty-three millions. . ti. But although this is the aggregate rci 'lt, it 'JJs by no means true of each particular part of the country, for New England increases at tho rate of 15 per cent, each ten years, while tho northwestern stales increase 100 per cent in that period. 3. Tho slave population increased at 30 per cent, but since at less than 25 per cent. The free population have, however, increased at the rato of 30 per cent. At this rate, therefore, the difference between the freo and slave population is constantly increasing. 4. Another fact is that tho colored population increases just in proportion to the distance south ; nnd that slavery in certainly and rapidly decreasing in tho slates bordering on the free states. This state of things continued, would, in a half century, extinguish slavery in theso stales, nnd concentrate the whole black population of the U, States on tho Gulf of Mexico, and the ac'j icent SSlutcs ou tho sout'acrn Atlantic.
