' . , i A Bad Law Wo learn that a bill has passed j both branchos of tho Legislature of this State, directing that, hereafter, at all elections, the Elector shall vote in the Township in which ho rcresides. Wo louk on this as a useless law, nnd one which will put tho people to much inconvenience, without any benefit. Q-Since tho above was in type, we learn that tho bill failed in the Senate by a vote of 27 to 18. That is, as it should be. Uniform. An eastern editor recommends that all editors should wear uniforms. In this country they generally do their clothes are uniformly ragued. . Surplus Produce. A private letter from a friend, residing at Lafayette, in this State, informs us, th-.it there is not near enough money in the Wabash country to buy up the surplus Pork, and other agricultural productions. Several of tho members hare been and are now sirk; though but one is nowthought to bo dangerously ill. Ph'Jti. Sentinel. Pennsylvania Legislature. Both branches of the legislature tf Pennsylvania elected their speakers tin Tuesday, the first day of the session. In the Senate there was but one absnntee, on the call to order, at 3 o'clock, P. M. On motion of Mr.Strohm, the Senate proceeded to the election of a Speaker, when Charles B. Penrose, of Cumberland. (Whig)was elected on the first ballot. The vote was, for Penrose, 18; Kingsbury, (Loco) 7; Snyder, 3; scattering, 4. On being conducted to the chair, by Messrs. Kingsbury anil Snvder, Mr. Penrose made a sensible, fee'ing, and el oquent address. In the House, also, every member was present except one, who was absent on acconnt of indisposition. After the roil had been ca'Ied, the House, on motion of Mr. Crabb, proceeded to the election of a speaker. On tha first ballot, the vote was for er Middlesvvarth (W.) 48; Richard Broadhcad, ' (L. F.) 4S; scattering 3. A second ballot was immediately held, which resulted as follows Middies warth (Whig) 4S; Flenncken (L. F.) IS; scattering, 3. No one having a majority of the whole number, a third ballot was had, w hich resulted in the choice of William A Crabb (Whig) of Philadelphia, 'as the Speaker. The vote was, for Crabb, 53; Middleswarth, -t-t; srntterinrr, t; Tho loco foco?, to tho number of 4S, supported Mr. Crabb in a body, and with tho aid of five whig?, that gentleman appears to have been elected over Mr". Mid ileswarth. tho regular whig candidate. After an address from Mr. Speaker Crabb, and the appointment of Ihe usual committees, tho House adjourned till next day, when it is probable the Governor's message will have been commtincinted. Bait. Patriot. Rhubarb Wine. A beautiful and sparkling wine resembling champaigne, it is said, can be procured from the stalk of the rhubarb plant. A foreign paper states that a patent has been granted in iunsrtand to the discoverers of this new product. The wine is represented as wholesome. ani1 he quantity that can be obtained from the plant is immense an acre of ground beinrr capa ble ofyieldinsr, annually, one hundred and fifty horrsheads. If this be true; the production of rhubarb wine might be made, in this country, a verv profitable and important branch of industry. The plan is well known here. N. Y. Standard.
