Besides the slaves, three free negroes were hung, and it was intended to drive away all free persons of color. We hive further heard a report that Mr. Fuzilin had shot a white man who had been coinplotting with the slaves; a Spaniard was also taken but made his escape. circumstance not generally known. Nevertheless, such is the fact. A recent discovery in geology has rendered his memory immortal, even it his extraordinary actions have failed to secure tkat boon fur him, and wedded his corporeal proportions and facial lineaments to stone, as effectually as could the chisel of Grcnough, Power?, or Clevinger. SPECIE PAYMENTS. The following article on this subject is from the Madisonian of yesterday: RKst'gFT.oa or Specie Pavjuvts. It affords us sincere pleasure to state, that preparatory measures have been taken, which can scarcely fail to lead to an early resumption of specie payments, by the leading State Banks generally throughout the Union. We have seen a letter from a high source in New York, which states lhat on tho 19th inst. the ofticers of the banks in that city unanimously resolved, to respectfully invite the Banks in the several States to meet on the 27th day of November next in that city, to confer on tho time when specie payments may be resumed with safety, and with convenience to the community; and on the measures necessary to accomplish successfully, that desirable and important object. The committee appointed last August by the same banks, was charged with the duty of communicating the resolution to tbo bunks in the several States. We learn these communications have already been "Thcre can hardly be a doubt but the leading banks in the several States will accept the invitation and bcartrty c oftr rntf ia.csxria into effect the object contemplated. That will enable the philters and f .rmcrs to pay the storekeeper; the storekeeper to piv the city j jbber, and the jobber to pay the bunks'. It is the crops alone which can lead to a "dieral liquidation of debts and balances. The fixing a period for resumption will d much, undoubtedly, thereafter, toward regulating and equalizing the domestic exchanges of the country. Necessary precautions and prudence will oblige those dea'ling in the domestic exchanges, to com-uct lhrse founded on the prescntjerops on the same principles in anticipation ol" a resumption of specie payments, that they would, if thev h id actually taken place. The mere act of fixing a day for resuming, will have the most salutary influence in restoring confilence, immediately nfter such decision is made bv the banks It will Ic.id to the iinnv? .V nte commencement and gradual preparation, on the part of the Bmkssind thecommunitv, lor the event; and, consequently, the period will be reached and passed over, without any eflect, other than the ordinary circumstances of the day -

UsrHi.x-riri.ED. It is perhaps known to many of our readers, that the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, held a Camp Meeting in the vicinity of our Town during the past Summer. The camp appurtenances h id been provided with some care, and many of the tents had been constructed of bonrds, with a view to make them serviceable for several years. The Preacher's tent, and the Pulpit, it appears, became the
