INDIANA DAIRY COWS GIVE 3,035,325,150 POUNDS OF RICH MILK

'Pv A30-!ateJ Tress LAFAYETTE, Ind., Jan. 5. Dairy cows, ot Indiana produced 3,035,325,150 pounds of milk last year, according to an announcement made at Purdue university. This milk was produced by 727,000 dairy cows it was paid and the averaee annual production per cow in Indiana was given a.s 41 74.6 pounds of milk and 1R6.9 pound of butter fat. The average production or 1,522 cows that completed a year's record in - the cow testing: associations last year was 5,502 pounds of milk and 252.3 pounds of butterfat. The average feed cost was. $57.46 per cow, and $85.91 income "over the cost of feed per cow. When labor and overhead expenses were added, it was found that the net. profit was not as high

as it should be, although higher than on farms not in the association, it was said. The total cost of production in the particfular class of cows on which the figures were based, is $104.47, leavin-? a net profit of $38.90 per cow, it was pointed out. The reason the average production per cow is-4ow in Indiana is because there are too many low producing cows that are not paying for their feed, it was said. G. A. Williams, in charge of cow testing associations for Purdue university, will discuss at the Purdue Fanners' Short Course ,the organization, operation and results of contesting associations in Indiana, it was said. - ; "

Police Court News

FINE IS SUSPENDED Henry U. Johnson, son of N. H. Johnson, was fined $100 and costs Friday morning in police court by Mayor Handley for violating the liquor law. The fine was suspended pending good, behavior. Johnson was arrested on Thursday morning.
