SOCIETY

'The best way to be happy is to

serve the world m which you live,

declared Rev. J. C. Hayes, of Shelby-

ville, in his talk to the student body

of Morton high school Friday morn

ing. Rev. Hayes, himself blind, explained the education of the blind. "Because a person can not see, persons think that the afflicted sit around and cry and remain gloomy, but not so. God meant for all the world to be happy, and the blind are able to be happy by their method of education. In schools for the blind, raised letters are used, and the alphabet is the first thing to be learned. The primer is

next then the reader. It was a delight to me when I could read those marvelous stories of Cinderella ai really derive benefit from the fact that I had the" touch In my right hand to read the raised lettering. How marvelous are the possibilities of the human mind, if properly trained. "We learn geography with raised lettering on card boards. Certain raised places on the card Indicate

mountains, others lakes and stars represented cities of a map, -The blind learn arithmetic with movable type, which they set and combine. We had our examinations, the same as you do, and our, teachers found out whether we knew anything or not. "To grasp the things you are studying, read them until they are yours,'' said Rev. Hayes. "I see things In

your minds. Give them your undivided attention.", . The Junior Girls Booster club sang a song, urging the basketball team 'on. to victory in all the games to be played this season.
