PREBLE COUNTY MEN ARE TRIED ON LIQUOR CHARGES AFTER RAIDS
EATON, Ohio, Dec. 13. Six Treble county men were taken before Mayor Raymond Ilornbeck in West Alexandria for trial on charges of liquor law violations. following raids led by Anti-Saloon league men from Dayton. Eaton furnished three of the men

George Thillips, of near Verona. Thill ips was charged with selling liquor, second offense, and the other five were charged with illegal possesion of liquor. Shelly was fined $100 and costs. Bender pleaded guilty, but sentence was deferred. Johnson stood trial, and the mayor reserved decision. Ilufford was released. Phillips was released, the mayor declaring evidence of guilt was not complete. Bierly's case was continued until a later date. The arrest of Johnson, Bender and Ilufford resulted from a raid on an old livery barn property in Eaton in which Johnson conducts a blacksmithing business. Hufford works for him.
Bender lives alone in the office quarters in the building. In a suit filed May 10, last, by Sarah E. Fortney, of West Alexandria, n gainst the village of West Alexandria for $10,122 damages. Judge A. C. ni singer has ordered the village to file an answer in common pleas court before Dec. 20. The suit grew out of injuries, allegededly sustained by the plaintiff when she fell on a street crossing, due to faulty construction, 'she avers.
Preble county schools will close Dec. 22 for the Christmas holiday va-
vation and reopen Jan. 2, County
School Superintendent W. S. Fogarty
states. Superintendents of the schools
expect to attend the Ohio State Teacn ers' association meet in Columbus
Dec. 27 to 29. Superintendent Fogarty also will attend the meeting. The Ohio
State Reading circle board will meet in Columbus, Dec. 2'J and 30, and Mr. Fogarty will attend the session, he
being a member of Ike board.
Clarence Kehr names John and Ada .M. Barnhart defendants to a common pleas court action to recover $223, alleged to be due on a note.

be used' for hot lunches for school children, the Dixon township schools will stage a Christmas bazaar, Dec. 18, in the central school building. Supper, minstrel show, country store, booths and Santa Claus will be added features to the bazaar. Estimated net profits of approximately $190 will be realized from the Civic League's recent three-day annual rummage sale. Estimate of profits was

Of Third M. E. Church To Give Play Friday Ten girls" of the Epworth league of the Third M. E. church will present a humorous play, "The Packing of the Missionary Barrel," at the church Friday evening, Dec. 15, beginning at 7:30 o'clock. The play is to be given to create a fund for the Epworth league pledge to Dr. Lowry, medical missionary to Pekin, China. Any member of the league can furnish tickets, or they
