OWEN BUSH TO GUIDE WASHINGTON CLUB IN 1923 FLAG RAGE
(By Associated Press) WASHINGTON. Dec. 13. Owen Donnie) Bush, veteran inSelder, will palde the fortunes of the American league Vva-ohington club as manager. In the 1923 pennant. race. Announcement that he had been selected to
succeed Clyde Milan, whose retire
ment ag manager was made known at the conclusion of last Feason was
made known by Clark Griffith, president of the club, over the telephone last night, from New York, where be
is attending the American, League
conference. The final decision was made, Griffith said, after a conference with Bush, for which he summoned
him to New York.
The Detroit infield star who Griffith rated in his telephone conversa
tion with the sport editor of a local
newspaper last night, as one of the "craftiest Infielders and best brains
the game has ever known," came to Washington as a utility player the latter part of the 1921 season, when waivers were asked on him by the
Detroit club. He had played short stop and second base there since 190S
Bush filled in at third base for the
local club during a number of games
last season.
"Donnies" appointment to the
managerial berth came as an almost complete surprise to Washington fan-
dom, his name never having been brought among those mentioned as
possibilities who included most prom
inently Mike Kelly, manager of the
St. Paul American association clun.
When talked to over the telephone after Griffith's announcement. Bush was reticent in making predictions but declared he believed "with the players on. the present roster of the club, a winning combination can be whipped into shape. . He is understood to have accepted the position only on condition that he be given an absolutely free hand in managing the club.

Ed Kaw, Cornell By NORMAN E. BROWN j Out of the eastern grid season, just , behind us, came a multitude of wonderful players. With the exception of four instances it is an extremely difficult matter to select from the candidates one man who can be ranked as without dispute the best at his post. These1 four men are Kaw of Cornell, Owen and Buell of Harvard and Gray of Princeton. Kaw is without question the greatest fullback in the east. Charley Buell is without a rival at the quarterback position. George Owen is the peer of all halfbacks and Gray is the perfect end, without an equal. Buell is selected for the quarterback position ahead of Pfann, the great Cornell pivot man, because, to my mind, Buell showed every quality needed in a quarter against the greatest opposition the east could produce. Pfann's work was just as brilliant, but there is a question as to how great would have been his work against more formidable opposition. Cornell had little opposition all season, with the exception of the Pennsylvania game, which Cornell won 9 to 0. Buell was called upon to show his greatness in defeat as well as in victory and delivered. In all-American and all-western selections I tried to place each man in his own position, even holding to the same side of the line and the backfield. In choosing the all-star eleven of the east, however. Treat of Princeton and Hanson of Cornell stand out as the two best taekles in that section. It would be unfair to replace either with another on that account. Hanson could
play either tackle briliantly. So he is shifted from the left to the right side of the line. Three Princeton men win places on the honor team. They stood out prominently in the most brilliant campaign
Princeton had in a dozen years. They helped make Princeton the strongest team in the east. Among the other men considered for posts of honor on one of the two teams and who might play on any all-star team, are: Ends: Taylor and Parr of the Navy, Stout of Princeton, Storke of the Army. Tackles: Mulligan of the Army, Baker of Princeton, Eastman of Harvard.
Charlie Buell, Harvard Guards: Hubbard of Harvard, Howard of Princeton, Schwab of Lafayette. Centers: - Alford of Princeton. Quarterbacks: Neidlinger of Yale, Conroy of Navy, Robertson of Carnegia Tech. Halfbacks: Casisdy of Cornell, Neale of Yale, Cleaves and Crum of Princeton. Fullbacks: . Brunner of Lafayette, Barchet of the Navy, Malory of Yale, Hewitt of Pittsburgh.
CARPENTIER-SIKI BOUT LESS CERTAIN
(By Associated Prss) PARIS, Dec. 13. Another Carpen-tier-Siki fight now appears less certain. The boxing federation has stipulated that it would not authorize the fight unless Siki appeared before its investigating committee. Siki has written the federation declaring that he will not appear unless the organ
ization first of all removes his disqualifications. In addition to this, according to Le Journal, a hitch has developed over the 300,000 franc stake which a business man was to put up for the proposed fight. Le Journal adds that Louis Reinhold and Andre Chagnon, the two sportsmen whose signatures were alleged to have appeared at the bottom of the farnous letter that led to the disqualification of Siki, declared that they never signed nor even saw that document.
