HAYS SAYS AMERICAN PRODUCERS WILL SELL COUNTRY TO WORLD (By Associated Press) CHICAGO, Dec 11. American pro- ' ducers will sell America to the world with motion pictures,, writes Will H. Hays, commissioner., in a letter to the Christian Advocate, official publication of the Methodist Episcopal church, requesting "suggestions for active help" in Improving the service of the motion picture.
"American producers furnish the majority of all pictures shown In the world, said Mr. Hays, "and correct
, depicting of the life and habits of our own and foreign people each to the other, will go far toward bringing the
international understanding and ap
preciation which moves In the direc
tion of a world peace. The producers
are making certain that all films sent
abroad, wherever they may go, shall
correctly portray American life, ideals and opportunities.
"Just as you serve the leisure hourt
of the masses you revet the girders of
society. The motion picture industry accepts the fact that the people of the country have the complete right to re
quire that motion pictures shall be
clean and shall be of the highest stand
ards of art and entertainment. Better to ascertain its duty, the industry obtained the co-operation of some eighty nationally organized welfare move
ments." Mr. Hays named 56 new films as to
dicative of the coming type of pictures
and "of the direction of the effort that
is being made."
"A committee appointed by the Na
tional Education association," he addd, "is meeting with the members of the association (Motion Picture Producers and Distributors, Inc.), and
plans will be perfected to the end that such need a3 now obtains, together with the certain almost limitless de
mand of the future, shall be met with
; pedagogic pictures."

Grandmother's Book On Etiquette Interesting (From the Detroit News) . The books of etiquette of grandmother' a day have much to say on the subject of marriage. "With a wife a husband's faults should be eacred" is the burden of their song. The directions on all subjects are explicit. - "Never dismiss help in anger," a housekeeper was told in the time when wages were
$8 a month. The prescribed formula for firing a cook was: "If we can not
get along pleasantly we must part'
Americanisms, as they were called, were taboo. A lady was told that she

"chaw" or "cowcumber or "hizen.1
And finally this is what was said on the question of bathing: "Once a week is often enough for a decent white man to wash himself all over, and
whether in summer or winter, that
ought to be done with soap, warm wa
ter and a hog's hair brush."
the moral life and keeps alive the God-given conscience within us; it
steadies us against the storms of life;
it speaks no uncertain word regarding
the future' otherwise unknown; it brings the soul into immediate touch
and communion with God. We will pray to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of our lives to behold the
beauty of the Lord and to inquire in
his temple." ,

a day seeking to keep soul and body together. He must do this, if all thso
hours are required of him, to get
food to feed himself and family, buy shoes for the children's feet, and provide shelter and warmth to protect them against the cold. Materialism Uppermost. "Under such conditions as these he thinks in terms of money, getting the hest of his neighbor, and securing the necessities of life. There i3 little elevating or stimulating in all this to his better and higher thought of life. The church comes with its opportunities for service and worship and lifts his "Thoughts from week to week up to higher planes. "The second reason why the church Is of value to the personal life of the individual is because It submits a man's conscience and moral life- to a quicken appeal. In the church we are constantly facing the thing we ought to do, and thing we ought to be. In the world we are constantly facing the thing we ought not to do and the thing we ought not to be. No man can subject himself continually to the strain of the pull downward and resist it unless he has a counterweight pulling him up. The car climbing the steep tide of a mountain accomplishes the difficult task because it has a counterweight which enables it to climb the
eteep incline. The church is the coun
terweight for the personal life which
offsets the pull of moral gravity
which Is so universally downward. Sensitiveness of Spirit
"Man's spirit Is as sensitive to the
moral atmosphere a? a dandelion is sensitive to the suc'ight He delib
erately shuts himself to the higher influences of life when he lives in the moral filth, fog and miasma of the materialistic associations of the business, social and industrial world. He
knows that his child coming Into the house reflects the atmosphere of the street He may not respond so quickly to influences as the child, but he cannot live apart from the highei moral and spiritual influences of life reflected in the church, without the whole of his moral outlook becoming lower. The church affords him the opportunity to keep a keen edge on
his con science and a lofty plane to his moral life. The church Is the anti
dote, the antitoxin and the vaccine of moral life which keep the soul immune from the moral diseases of the world in which we are forced to live and work. "The third reaon why the church Is of value to the individual life is because it steadies and strengthens a man to meet hardship, trouble and loss which are the common heritage of mankind. The psalmist said he wanted to live continually in the house he God, that In the day of trouble he might.be hidden in a place of refuge. Jesus said, 'Come unto me all ye that are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' Unnumbered thousands and millions have proved the truth of these
words. It needs no argument to show
that the church has always been the place of refuge to those in distress. "The fourth reason why the church is of value to the individual life is because it holds clearly and steadily before the mind of man the fact of immortality and the reality of eternal life. Uncertain Voices "Follow the history of man's belief
m immortality as tne . piled, up cen
turies of the past record the story and note how irregular and spasmodic and uncertain have been the voices of science, philosophy and human aspiration on this subject. Now they have been clear shining like a star, now lost to
view in the fog and doubt and uncertainty. Now they have blazed like a beacon; now men who have followed the light have been as those following
wandering fires.
"Turn then to the church, and study
its testimony. There are intimations
of immortality in the oldest portions of the Old Testament There are
hopes of Immortality in the better portions of the Old Testament There is an expressed confidence in immortality in the life and teachings of Jesus, and the latter portions of the New Testament glow with the reflection of
this great truth which the gospel
brought so clearly to man. Since then
the church in one long unbroken testimony has borne witness to ita confidence in this supreme truth.
"When science has tried to tell us
that we are only of the earth, earthy that we are born to breathe, to gasp and then to die, that we are only as other animals, and shall pass as the grass of the field, then it is that the
church assures a blindly groping world
tnat Jesus Christ brought life and immortality to light through the gaspel-
Leads Soul Heavenward "Lastly, but by no means least,
rather as summing up all the other reasons personal as well as social, the
church is of value to the individual
because It brings the soul into communion with God. The psalmist would dwell in the house of the Lord all his days that he might behold the beauty
of the Lord. Nothing can surpass the
beauty of the Lord. We gather the flowers in handfuls and in armfuls and
lay them at his feet We leave them
there for the sake of beholding him in all his beauty. We gather the rich harvests of the year, the golden sheaves of grain, the yellow piles of corn. We leave them as of little significance when we behold the beauty of the Lord. We gather the wealth of the world, Its gold and silver and precious stones; we make them into things of exquisite beauty and loveliness. We pile up the beauties of art expressed in painting, sculpture and architecture. They are as nothing in comparison with the beauty of his face when revealed to the soul In worship. We gather knowledge and wisdom; the science and history and literature of the world. We pile It high in libraries.

The only sure way to get rid of dan
druff is to dissolve it then you destroy it entirely. To do this, get about four ounces of ordinary liquid arvon; apply
it at night when retiring; use enough to moisten the scalp and rub it in
gently with the finger tips. Do this tonight and by morning, most if not all, of your dandruff will be gone, and three or four more applications will completely dissolve and entirely destroy every single sign and
trace of it, no matter how much dan
druff you may have.
You will find, too, that all Itching and digging of the scalp will stop at
once, and your hair will be fluffy, lus
