HJS LODGE OFFERS ! TV0 SCHOLARSHIPS i FOR HIGH STUDENTS

Two- scholarships for pnpfla of the Richmond high school were established by Richmond lodge of Elks, No. 49, Thursday erenlng. The purpose of the scholarships la to encourage "worthy boys and girls to btain one year of additional scholastic or Tocatlonal training after they

have completed high school courses,

'The tuition for this training will ba paid for by the- lodge; The scholarships hare a worth of $300. The Elks' scholarships wOl differ from those ordinarily offered in that they will be open onjy to boys and girls who have been Ighting against financial handicaps In obtaining their high school education. In conjunction with Superintendent Bate, Principal Cline and the scholarehftp committee of the high school, the j following points hare been agreed (upon as the basis for the -proposed (scholarships! First, handicaps undergone and those likely to continue; (2) perseverI ance in the face of difficulties (3 1 i scholarship; (4) mental attitude; (5) I participation in school activities; (6) dependability; (7) potential worth. Scope Is Broad. The scope of the scholarships Is so broad, said lodge officials, that It does not confine the successful candidates to specific college training, but will permit "them to obtain training In tho courses which will make them better ""units of the community. A special committee of which Carl Eggemeyer is ' chairman, is In charge of this activity. : On Sunday, Dec. 24, the Life of Christ, a six reel film, will be shown free for the children of the city.
